Roster News: Thomas and Turner Return, Fletcher and Landolt Waived

Bent , theJetsBlog.com

In an unsurprising move, the Jets have re-signed Bryan Thomas, according to our own Jake Steinberg. As we suggested last week, this was more of a procedural move to enable them to replace an injured veteran with an extra defensive back on the active roster.

I wouldn’t be surprised to hear more roster moves announced over the next 24 hours, so watch this space:

UPDATE: As promised, here’s the update from the Jets’ twitter feed with news of a couple of other moves and confirmation of the Marcus Dixon release reported earlier.

Jets have re-signed LB Bryan Thomas and WR Patrick Turner, and have waived DL Marcus Dixon, CB Donnie Fletcher and T Dennis Landolt.

Analysis: Patrick Turner is used to being on and off the Jets roster at this point and his return perhaps isn’t a major surprise when you consider some of the mistakes their receivers made in the last game, so it gives Sanchez a target with whom he has some chemistry. Fletcher’s release likely means the Jets will be in the market for another defensive back before Sunday and Landolt had been injured since before preseason, so it will remain to be seen if he goes on injured reserve or is brought back once healthy.
