Roster News: Epps Re-Signed to Active Roster

Per Randy Lange at the official Jets twitter feed:

Jets have brought TE Dedrick Epps back. They signed him from Bears’ practice squad to their active roster. Active roster now back at 53.

The Jets had a roster spot free after cutting Patrick Turner earlier in the week. However, by signing Epps from Chicago’s practice squad they are, by rule, committed to keeping him on the active roster for three weeks.

Epps got a lot of playing time in preseason, especially with the injuries to Dustin Keller and Jeff Cumberland, but didn’t make much of an impact. It seems likely the Jets wanted to bring in someone who knows the system with Dustin Keller having suffered a setback in practice.

It’s also worth noting that the Jets used six offensive linemen a lot against the Steelers in 2010, as well as plenty of two tight end sets, so the we can probably expect to see plenty of playing time for the Jason Smith/Konrad Reuland pairing that did a solid job together last week.
