Updated: Jets sign Nick Taylor

The Jets have signed Nick Taylor to a reserve/futures contract according to TheJetsBlog’s Jake Steinberg on twitter.

Taylor is 5-10 and 190 pounds. He was in camp with the Vikings last year but tore his shoulder and missed the whole season. Taylor is a former FIU basketball player, so is likely a raw athlete. He is listed as a defensive back. Here’s a story on him from when he tried out with the Vikings a year ago.

Bent, TheJetsBlog.com

We’re re-posting this because a previous version of this post correctly stated that NFL.com lists Taylor at 165 pounds, but we’ve been made aware that this information is outdated and he’s now much bigger than that. The move is yet to be listed on the official NFL transaction list, but that’s also the case with the Ras-I Dowling signing that was confirmed by the Jets a week ago, so I expect the Jets just haven’t filed the paperwork with the league yet or something.

You can follow Taylor on twitter here so be sure to give him a warm welcome.

McCluster is 5'8" and 172.....Woodhead is 5' 8" and 200....I don't see what all the negativity is towards someone who is small and quick. Not like it's costing us anything.

Just a reminder that Jimmy Graham played basketball at the "U" and only one season of football...and he wasn't even that impressive on the football team. Give the kid  (Taylor) a chance......

(I'm not comparing Taylor, Woodhead, McCluster and Graham....just the point of "you never know".) Idzik is looking for inexpensive potential.

5'10" is not the problem, 165 lbs. is! How about kick returner and catching balls out of the backfield. Put him the weight room right away.

I wonder what the heck they think a guy like this can possibly turn into in the NFL.  I mean 5'10", come on!

Did you read above story. How can 165 lbs be a problem when he weighs 190 lbs.

@a57se@1969JAN12th When its all said and done GM's all do the same stuff.  Idzik though has made our roster the 7th youngest in the league and that should increase after the draft.  He turning the roster upside down creating competition at all positions.   He hasnt made to big of a bone head signing yet, (sanchez)

@Pat d

Why bother reading the story.......

@SackDance99 @a57se FWIW Darrelle Revis is listed at 5-11, 198.  5-10, 190 sounds pretty good to me.

@a57se My spies tell me he ran faster at his Jets workout than anyone in recent memory.

@a57seThe linked article put him in the 4.27 to 4.33 range.  Also, as a former basketball player, he probably has good leaping ability.  I don't know why the comments are calling him too small.  He's 5' 10", probably has a decent vertical and 190 lbs (if that's indeed his new weight) is decent enough size.  Sounds close to the prototype CB.

@a57se @Pat d I can see why someone would be so keen to skip right to the comments.
