Roster Update: Jets sign two, release TE Miller

Following the release of Mike Goodson yesterday, the Jets have brought in a couple of camp legs, as confirmed by the Jets official site:

The Jets have signed kicker Andrew Furney and punter Jacob Schum. Both participated as non-roster invitees at the full-squad minicamp that concluded today […] Undrafted rookie TE Terrence Miller was released to free up the second roster spot.

Furney is a rookie who once made a 60-yard field goal, the second longest in Pac-12 history. Schum was undrafted out of Buffalo last year and signed with the Browns but was cut in May. Each of them were with other teams earlier this offseason, Furney with Seattle and Schum with the Bucs.

We wrote about Miller’s chances of making the roster last week.

The Jets remind me of a new experimental formula this season, either the ingredients all mesh, or its back to the drawing board. I see the former.

Im not concerned, but I love how this gets said about a player on our squad and a week later he's gone...

"NY Jets may have a find in UDFA Terrence Miller/Arizona...better version of Jeff Cumberland at comparative points in career..."

@Pete 57

That's pretty cool.

I wonder who the other player was who wore #28 and then got cut.  Can't recall.

@__fense Furney you should say that...

@Mike Milea Another way of looking at it...maybe that comment was 100% accurate and now our 91st best player is BETTER than our 53rd best player was four years ago.

@tsjc68 @Pete 57 Surely the reason he wore #28 was because he wore #28 in New England.  Is the author of this story or Martin himself simply getting mixed up with the fact a Pats player got cut?

I don't believe anyone on the 1997 roster had the number 28 so I guess if the story is accurate it would have just been some rookie, but that would be weird not to just give him his existing number.

Yeah, that's a bit wonky.

@Hanknaples Interested to see where you're going with this.

I think right tackles are more valuable because it's harder to find a competent one cheaply.

However, the importance of both positions is overblown and the top end talent is often overpaid in terms of the value you get.

Any lineman, jets have put together some good defenses(without good safety help) but when 1 lineman is bad......
