Rex Ryan was ready Wednesday when asked about Giants rookie running back Andre Williams’ comment to the New York Post that he thinks “the Giants are the real New York team.”
“Yeah, the last time I saw (Williams), he was getting smoked by Clemson,” Ryan said of Williams, a former Boston College player who was held to 70 yards by Clemson last fall (AP, Aug. 20).
The Jets meet the Giants Friday at MetLife Stadium.
“I will say that kid is a good back, though. . . .But you know what, hey, (Williams’ comment is) great. I have a funny feeling he’s going to get some (helmets) put on him, but we’ll see,” Ryan said.
Ryan’s son Seth is a redshirt wide receiver at Clemson. The Tigers were one of four teams to hold Williams under 100 yards last season, when Williams ran for 2,177 yards.
Jets nose tackle Damon Harrison also chimed in on Twitter: “See you Friday Mr. Williams…#JetLifeeeeee.”
