Ryan tweaks Giants rookie RB Williams

Rex Ryan was ready Wednesday when asked about Giants rookie running back Andre Williams’ comment to the New York Post that he thinks “the Giants are the real New York team.”

“Yeah, the last time I saw (Williams),  he was getting smoked by Clemson,” Ryan said of Williams, a former Boston College player who was held to 70 yards by Clemson last fall (AP, Aug. 20).

The Jets meet the Giants Friday at MetLife Stadium.

“I will say that kid is a good back, though.  . . .But you know what, hey, (Williams’ comment is) great. I have a funny feeling he’s going to get some (helmets) put on him, but we’ll see,” Ryan said.

Ryan’s son Seth is a redshirt wide receiver at Clemson. The Tigers were one of four teams to hold Williams under 100 yards last season, when Williams ran for 2,177 yards.

Jets nose tackle Damon Harrison also chimed in on Twitter: “See you Friday Mr. Williams…#JetLifeeeeee.”

How can anyone not be embarrassed by having Rex as their team's coach?  He's like a 12 year old.

Nothing will happen Rex is an idiot Pryor won't get a chance to hit Andre bc he will get 5 carries at the most

It's a meaningless exhibition game. Rex isn't a player, he's the head coach, he needs to set an example by being above this petty garbage. Williams is a rookie who is trying to impress so he gets regular season touches. Maybe he needs to motivate himself. Rex is considered a veteran head coach; he should know this game means nothing to anyone but football writers trying to fill pages & there was no reason for him to respond. Regardless, was Williams saying something that's untrue? The Giants are the best team in NY & have been for the past 44 years, just look it up. 4 Super Bowls for the Giants since 1970 (the AFL/NFL Merger) compared to only 2 AFC East Division Titles for the Jets since 1970. It appears that Rex responded because he has an inferiority complex & based upon the aforementioned facts, he should have one.

keep riding that clemson bandwagon rex. maybe we can pick up another great player like boyd. that guy is sure terrific. maybe you can hire him as a scout to scout more great clemson players like him. oh and instead of drafting williams we got evans and saunders two losers. great move rex

I just hope the Jets don't sell out against the run when Williams is in there, and get beat for a 99 yard TD screen that we'll have to read about for a week.

I love when cimini says how rex lost his bravado and doesn't talk trash anymore. Rex has opened his mouth multiple times this year. He only toned it down because he knew the 2012 and 2013 teams sucked. Rex can't help himself; he is who he is.

@Disgruntled Jets Fan  I hope they do in a way ... rather have that happen in preseason and learn a lesson about playing with control and focus and not letting their emotions get the best of them—and that goes for penalties, too. Because if they starting getting a rep as a team that can easily get goaded into bad personal fouls, the refs will start looking for it and be more likely to throw flags for every little post-play bump.

He only says that as a blatant attempt to push rex into giving him more quotes to write about and criticize him for.

I can't put too much credibility into something that starts with "people of texas"
