Taking a look at Trevor Reilly

One of the most colorful characters of the Jets rookie draft class might be Trevor Reilly.  If you haven’t read up on him yet, be sure to see these articles below.

Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.com

It’s hard not to read the hardships that Reilly and his family has faced and amusing anecdotes and not want to root a little harder for him.

Regardless of a deep story that’s brought him to the NFL, Reilly could be a that the Jets mold into the eventual replacement for Calvin Pace. Reilly is a solid tackler, has an excellent motor and is best used around the line of scrimmage … could he be a player that the Jets use on special teams with the notion to eventually move into a larger role in a package on defense? It’s possible, and I will definitely be keeping my eye on him this summer.

Absolutely, he's one of those guys that it is easy to root for. On top of that, he is an intriguing player. If he can bounce back from his injuries, he may be a 7th round steal. The Jets drafted two late round players who have shown the ability to get into the backfield in college--Reilly and IK. Hopefully one (or preferably both) show the same ability on the pro level.

Seems to be an injury prone unique dude

If he can stay healthy, I am sure that he will be a solid contributor.  Here's hoping for the best!

Can't we use the OLB depth anyway? And a good tackler on special teams is usually a lock. I think this guy is a lock to make the team, so I'm already excited. Sounds like a stand up mature guy, those are usually the ones who get the job done. Glad we got this guy.

True team leader material.  What a character.  I hope he makes it.

TREVOR REILLY SHOULD HAVE BEEN AT WORST A THIRD ROUND PICK. MY SON IS AN NFL EXPERT AND RATED HIM VERY HIGHLY AND JUMPED FOR JOY WHEN WE GOT HIM IN SUCH A LATER ROUND.

This could possibly another gem found late, much like Snacks except Snacks was an UDFA and Reilly could have been, I'm thinking the jets said why wait after the draft and lose our chance on grabbing him in FA, why not just grab him now.  He looks like a Lineman, but I've notice he moves very quickly, has good acceleration for a guy that size.  This defense is going to be number 1 in all of Football, hopefully Barnes can play, hopefully Pryor and Allen solidify the safety position and Milliner and Mcdougle can solidify 1&2.  Teams aren't going to be putting to many points on us this season.

I am rooting for him to be our Jarret Johnson... 10 year starter.

love taking a guy who people doubt and has motivation.  I bet this guy sees the field this year as a special teamer at least

I don't think I've ever been this excited about a 7th round pick.

He's not quite a lock to make the team, as he, McIntyre, Cunningham, Troy Davis and Enemkpali are all probably in a five man battle for what is probably only one spot (two, tops). He'll have to climb over three vets who all have knowledge of Rex's complex system and another highly-regarded (and higher-drafted) rookie who has looked good thus far.

I expect him to make the final 53, but he's far from a lock just yet.

@Robert Epperly  I was looking at the app on nfl.com where it has all of the prospects and I happened to look at his profile and video, this was in the seventh round, and I was saying to myself why is this guy still on the board, then the Jets came on the clock and sure enough, took him.

@lamjones forgot he is a few years older... 7 or 8 year starter most likely.

I jizzed in my pants for Antonio Allen.

@tsjc68  Agree, he is not a lock by any means. But =, like a lot of our draftees, if he can contribute on special teams, it should help him stick.

Fixed that for you.

@lamjones  He's only 26, for what he'll be doing, it won't be long before he produces on the field, he can play as a lineman or linebacker, perfect for a Rex Ryan defense.
