TJB’s Early NFL Draft Declarations List 12/14/13

Will Jadaveon Clowney declare for the NFL draft?

Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.com

Just like last year, we’ve been keeping a list of players who are considering the NFL Draft as juniors.  Analysis on the players coming down the road, but here’s our list of players we’ve come across so far.

This is by far the worst comment section I have ever read.

Wtf happen to our community that most of us enjoyed so much. I'd get just as much knowledge from comments as I would the content and now it's all just baseless opinions with no meat to it.

If it continues to be espn 2.0 I won't be here for much longer and I don't think I'm the only one.

Brian, Really glad you've kicked this off & looking forward to updates on who's in the 2014 draft class. The Jets must draft a QB and since Bridgewater will be off the boards, I'm hoping we have a shot at Manziel. Besides demonstrated ability, he has the dynamic personality a NY Jets QB should have at least once every 50 years (right, Broadway Joe?).

If the Jets pass up on drafting a QB, it means they'll be making the same friggin mistake they made when they passed up Dan Marino because they already had their franchise QB in Richard Todd. How well did that work out for you, Jets' Management?

It's frustrating to watch this team keep making the same mistake for decades. Not only would you  think they'd eventually learn, but an owner like Woody Johnson who claims to be a long-term fan should know the team's history.  - frustratedjetsfan (before being limited to 10 characters or less)

Hey guys, even if we can produce a seventh win, it would still be an improvement over last season. Lets just fight for one game at a time, and build cohesion as we head into 2014...

Go Jets!!

doubt Jets will make the play offs, teams ahead of the Jets would have to lose outright and Jets would have to win outright to make it, I'll take the higher picks, let's face it this team will be one and done as soon they start playing the better teams, I'm happy they beat NO and NE and it gives Jets fans hope that they can be good once they get better players.

oh no there's CBs on the list.  Rex will push hard to pick them even though we have only one viable nfl wr in kerley and no TEs.

Is Mariota bound to his decision to stay at Oregon? Because if Bridgewater stays, which seems increasingly likely, I would definitely reconsider if I were Mariota. He'd be the #1 QB by a longshot.

If I was the GM, Alshon Jeffrey and Keenan Allen would both be a Jet. Lol

DAVANTE ADAMS WILL BE A STUD.

only QB that would be good for the Jets if they decide to draft another QB would be Bridgewater since he is the most NFL ready, unfortunately he would only have Kerley to throw to, doubt he will available even if Jets lose the rest of their games, stay away from Manziel, he would only be good if he sat and learned for a couple of years from a good veteran QB before he starts

What would happen if Clowney slipped to the Jets?

Anyone think Rex would be running up to the podium to select him?

The Hank & Joey show isn't exactly what I look forward to in the threads....I miss some of the thoughtful regulars that don't seem to have made the switch.

I rather take Ekpre Olomu if we go CB which i think we should considering A.Cro is not playing like he did last year and instead is playing like he has done every other year of his career. And K.Wilson has not lived up to a first round draft choice, and Milliner needs more time to be properly evaluated, If we can sure up our secondary and allow our front line to go to work our Defense will imrpove vastly. Understood offensive weapons are priority, but considering how badly our secondary has been beaten all year, I think we are going to need some insurance. Olomu or Bradley Roby would be an immediate upgrade.

@DrJonathanReefer I'm inclined to agree.  One commenter in particular came here under a false name and tried to convince people to leave the site but that didn't work so he's now intent on ruining the experience for everyone else.  If that continues, we'll get rid of him and then things will improve, I promise.

@frustjetfn They didn't pass up on Dan Marino because they had Richard Todd, they drafted Ken O'Brien, who they felt at the time was better. If the Jets selected Dan Marino, we would be scratching our heads trying to figure out who Dan Marino was, And if Ken O'Brien was selected by Miami then perhaps it would have been O'Brien who set all those records. Talent wise they were pretty close as it was. In fact O'Brien outplayed Marino in a lot of games. The only difference between the two was the teams, coaches and talent around them.  Not much different then today. It doesn't matter who we draft at QB, if we do not surround them with talent, it's pointless.  Had we had talent this year on offense perhaps, people who bash Geno could be singing his praises. It just pisses me off how impatient people are and how clueless they are, I mean, are you seriously going to spend a first round pick on Manziel? That will get a lot of people fired in NY, after an atrocious season. I wouldn't take any of these QB's. I would spend all of my picks on WR,TE, OL. Get some speed on offense and defense, especially the linebackers. Then if it still doesn't work out next season then you consider drafting a QB in 2015, at least then you will have all of the pieces in place.  You cannot expect a rookie to succeed without talent around them, heck unless your Manning or Brady, you cannot expect veterans to succeed either.

O yea we got to get Devonte Adams last 2 weeks I been clamoring for him.

@marcus81 I wouldn't worry about a QB this year, this year is all about stocking up on receivers and tight ens, offensive linemen and a couple of fast athletic linebackers, a couple of corners through free agency and a safety. I would wait until Jamais Winston decides to enter the draft, he seems to be the next big time franchise QB. And in the mean time, we can see if Geno can prove he can be a franchise QB.

@marcus81

Actually the most NFL ready QB in this draft is McCarron.

There is a difference between being NFL ready and being talented. McCarron is not as talented as some of the guys in this draft but you don't QB for Alabama unless you know how to manage a game and minimize mistakes.

@a57se I Hope the Jets trade up and get Clowney.  I want my team to have the best player in this draft, and he is it.

marcus81
marcus81

@a57sethis team probably has the worst offense in the league, drafting a defensive player with the first pick would be unforgivable

@a57se if rex is still here, probably.  the question is if idzik tackles him first.

Thank you bent. You, bassett and the rest put way to much hard work into this site to have somebody try to discredit all of its content every chance he gets.

Opinions are one thing Joey but facts are facts.

Your blatant disrespect for Bent and all the hard work he does to show us these facts is gut wrenching.

Since your return you have giving us nothing but you baseless opinions that you shove in our faces just like you used to.

It's not a convo if your doing all the talking.

I get absolutely nothing from your comments. You just a nut job who will spin anything to fit your self entitled opinions. Your not even immune to contradicting yourself on a regular basis if it will support your opinion at the time.

@jetfuel @kniff They (Carolina) are good, there is no question about it, but with Winslow and Kerley healthy, and Powell and Ivory still kicking ass, we are up to the challenge my friend...

Our Defensive front seven are still as fierce as ever, so lets hope for some elevated play from our secondary!!

marcus81
marcus81

@jetfuelI don't care if they lose for once, as long as they play close and don't have any more embarrassing blow out loses.

frustjetfn

@marcus81@a57seThat wouldn't stop Rex. He's single-minded and would use his influence to always draft D talent even if the the team went 0-16. At least he could brag his D was #1.

I liked Rex's enthusiasm too, but Woody made a big mistake when he threw too much of his inherent power / control as an owner to Rex who is a self-admitted offensive imbecile. IMO Woody unwittingly let Rex undermine himself, should have realistically viewed his strengths & weaknesses and hired a strong personnel GM to protect the team from Rex's biased impulses.

Going forward, if Rex stays, Idzik must be better than Tanny at doing this job. He also must have Woody's support to do it.

@marcus81 @a57se

indeed, drafting anything defense in the first 3 imo is a huge sin.  i want to see 2 wr and a te drafted.

here's to hoping.

J. Smooth

@marcus81 @a57se Yes but I still think you take BPA. We're going to have 4 picks in the first three rounds, and if Clowney, or Barr for that matter, are there by some sort of fluke, it would be absurd to pass. Considering that Watkins should be gone, there shouldn't be any debate between Clowney/Barr or Lee/Evans

Mike Milea
Mike Milea

Your kind of right with your comment below, but I think that as this young defensive line grows together they will gradually get better, plus if you add in a nice little splash from Free Agency or the Draft, I dont think we need to worry about our front line right now... Just watched this highlight, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ulHw2C3geo ... and although I made my case for CB's above, if we can get a RB with speed like "DAT" to add to our wrecking ball in Ivory and Powell in the backfield... our RB's would be a headache and a half for any and every defense. Add in the fact the "DAT" can catch the ball, his addition would open up the entire offense for us. What do you guys think?

@a57se @marcus81 If Clowney falls you take him, unless Bridgewater somehow falls with him. Pointless to talk about either way.

My god these Dudes are clueless. At least your opinions on Geno is fact based and is a valid argument.

@Mike Milea

we need receivers and a te.  goodson will be back next year let's see what we have in him.  powell and ivory are good imo.  with a passing game they can only get better (well teh running game).

We can't pick defense in the first 2-3 rounds.  we are just shameful on offense.

Bent

@marcus81

How has he done less than last year?  He's got 25 tackles and 30 total pressures.  Last year he had 21 tackles and 29 total pressures, so he's already exceeded that.  That's even with the slow start where his ankle was clearly limiting him.

He's third in the NFL at his position for QB hits.

Bent
Bent

@marcus81 He basically IS a DE period.  The rush linebacker position is essentially a defensive end role.  In fact, he's playing more DE than last year, because strictly speaking he was playing tackle most of the time.

@marcus81@psi1@jetfuel

Wow....I am glad no one on the Jets listens to you!

Just for the record, they surely don't listen to me either!

@psi1@jetfuelI would trade Coples for Mingo if Browns went for it. Rex is not using him it seems.

Brilliant analysis, thanks for that sage and profound breakdown of Coples. Now I see why I should listen to you!

marcus81

@a57se@marcus81Coples has done less than what he did last year since he was moved around, his name is hardly ever called during a game for making any plays.

a57se

@marcus81

Oh, so we should take your point of view over Bent and, more importantly, Rex Ryan?

HAHAHAHAHA! you are delusional.

marcus81

@jetfuel@djf1Coples is DE period, and would have more of an impact if he stayed there, he's not Terrell Suggs like Rex thinks

@djf1@psi1@jetfuel

Some idiot fan wrote an article about Coples and Joeyboy is all over it.....the same idiot fan said the pass to Kerley for the TD was a perfect throw!

djf1
djf1

@psi1@jetfuel Coples is generating plenty of pressure.

Criticizing his pass rushing is ignorant.

psi1
psi1

@jetfuel Agreed on Coples. He does not have the body flexibility to be a true edge rusher. He also has not yet grown into the type of edge setter that Bryan Thomas or Calvin Pace were in their prime. He appears to work hard and is strong enough to overpower people. Seems like a true DL to me. A real OLB with pass rushing skills to complement the superior line players is still needed. However, all that said we MUST address the offense as a higher priority. However with cap space you can do a lot with both sides of the ball if you make your moves wisely.
