Watch: Calvin Pryor stops by SNY; John Idzik one-on-one

The newest addition to the New York Jets, first-round pick S Calvin Pryor joins Jets Nation after the draft to talk about becoming a Jet.

Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.com

I love the answer that Pryor gave to host Bryan Custer’s question about going up against some of the league’s very best quarterback this year.  To me it demonstrates that he gets what his role is going to be as he comes in and adjusts to the NFL but recognizes the excellent pieces the Jets have in their front seven and in the secondary to help him out.  Pryor understands he doesn’t need to make every play, but trust that his coaches know how best to utilize him and play within his role, thereby allowing him to make plays for the Jets defense.

Jets GM John Idzik chats with SNY’s Jeane Coakley about how he knew Calvin Pryor was their man and explains what kind of player Pryor can be for the Jets in 2014.

Jets head coach Rex Ryan talks about what kind of player Calvin Pryor is and how he will fit in with the team >> Watch on SNY.tv

So, who had Pryor in their draft predictions?

We NEED to get Rex a serviceable above average starting CB...

Milliner and Wilson are not enough for Ryan's defensive scheme...

2 rumors

jets trade 4th rd pick to cowboys for CB Maurice Claiborne

jets trade a 4th rd pick to raiders for WR Denarius Moore

i have seen this surface on twitter & gang green nation.

I like trading up for Baptiste.. Seems like our D will be complete if we get another corner. HOWEVER we NEED to improve offense and a guy like Davante Adams or Landry would be awesome.

Possible day two picks

Lee, Richardson, Fiedorowicz, McGill, Lawerence, Bucannon,

Zartan

ASJ,Niklas,  Jeffcoat, Jordan Tripp, land 2 of these guys in the next 2 rds and i'd be ecstatic.  Then go CB 4th and WR .

Marvel

ASJ or Amaro then McGill or Baptiste

ARCHER and Brown later

Deonne Bucannon and 3rd round pick is likely better than Pryor alone, imo.

Bucannon is bigger, stronger, faster and had twice as many INT's  in college as Pryor.  Just not sure why we felt we could not trade back.

Time will tell.

@kniff

We should go out and get Demtri Patterson he's pretty good.

@Hoz No one's mentioning Moore?  He's an electrifying player who was criminally underutilized by the Raiders.  He'd be an absolute steal for a 4th rounder.

@Hoz  Is Claiborne that much of a bust right now ? seems so little to give up

@Hoz  Claiborne certainly has more upside than any CB we could draft in the 4th.

@JCuratola3

That would be a draft day worst scenario for the Jets, trading up for Baptiste, imo.  He is not nearly that caliber of player.

Just imagine if the Jets pick Bucannon in round 3

Phillip Gaines was a better college player who stills has the size you want 6'1" 1/2 and is a better athlete than both.

Go after Bucannon too

Zartan

@harold  I'm fine with Pryor but Bucannon was my top safety.

@harold  Again, was this offer on the table? You can't criticize the team for a hypothetical.

@jsadolph @kniffHa Ha! Let us see what unfolds...Walls showed some flashes too, but the current lineup needs some ramping up as far as I can see...

Yeah but the injury is a red flag

@Pat d  Buccannon was pick in the 1st rd.

@Zartan @haroldI thought Buchanon was going to be the pick because I thought he wasn't going to go in the 1st round.  IMO, Pryor was the best S.

@Brendan @harold

I cannot imagine a scenario where this offer was not on the table.  Teams moved up a couple spots behind us.  I am not being critical just to be... It seems rather obvious the Jets had this type of choice to make.

He played a lot of man-press and played it well.  He can get stronger, which I agree with.

He is definitely a man press CB on tape, that is not even a question.

a57se

@harold @a57se

I think he is underdeveloped physically for the NFL.

He has a lot of good traits especially as a zone CB but he is not a press corner right now......

a57se
a57se

@harold @a57se

A lot of 'pundits' have him as a mid to late rounder......we'll see what the NFL thinks.

I like the guy and would not mind the Jets taking him but I realize he does need a LOT of work.

harold
harold

@a57se

I watched his tape available online and it is very good.  He could go tonight.  Does that mean you are not good because you don't go in the first round?  That is just a silly statement.

a57se
a57se

@harold @a57se

To your eyes.....if his tape was fine with his measurables, he would have been selected last night as physically he is as good as anyone taken.

a57se

@harold @Marvel

Gaines has great measureables but his tape is not all that good. He has a lot to learn.

Can the compensatory pics be traded?

a57se
a57se

@SackDance99@harold

I don't think Pryor will start this year unless they force him in like they did with Winters  and Milliner last year.

@SackDance99 @harold @Zartan  Given New Orleans traded up for WR Cooks at #20 it is hard to imagine the Jets could not have received similar comp for #18.

Pryor has potential... but he better be the clear #1 safety in this draft in 2-3 years.

harold
harold

@SackDance99 @harold@Zartan

It would be to bundle picks as the draft moves along and maybe come away with 2 or 3 2nd rounders and 2 3rd rounders by packaging the picks they acquire.

SackDance99
SackDance99

@harold @SackDance99@ZartanEvery team wants to trade down, but few good offers are made.  Plus, the Jets already have 12 picks, why did they need a 13th?  As it is, it's a lock that all 12 won't make the roster and will either be cut or put on the PS.  I'm okay with the pick.

harold
harold

@SackDance99 @Zartan@harold

But is that difference worth not trading down? Only if he becomes a consistent pro bowler.  If not it will be a would've, should've, could've.

a57se

@harold

Arizona receiverd NO 1st and 3rd round picks for no. 20

Jets could have gotten at least that from NO IF they had been in contact...maybe they weren't.

Impossible to know, Idzik sat for the whole 10 mins..Rod Graves is a good personell guy as is Bradway, combine all 3 of the above, gotta give them their shot
