Enough with the pitch count for Winslow. There's only 2 games left for his time on an offense that's struggled, partly due to Geno getting no reps from Winslow in practice. So, of COURSE he can't find him during a game... If his leg falls off, well, it's not like we're losing anything.

Didn't check all old comments, but surprised at not seeing any comments Re: Holmes wanted to be resigned. It's about 3 years too late to make that argument. I don't even think Rex (if he stays) would fight that he's made a significant contribution in the last two years.

On the other hand, with Rex's loyalty issues you never know even though the experiment to make Holmes a Captain failed miserably. I'd like to see what other GM will offer him if  they figure out what he's getting paid on a per catch basis this year.

This system stinks. Was the design drafted by Idzik? The sort function  still doesn't work on "Newest,"  instead it starts with 4 hrs ago. How are they not able to do a sort in any high level language today? Maybe they should work for the government.

Also, the tabs should be highlighted when chosen. That's one of those new user friendly things that came into vogue about 30-40 years ago. Shhhh.

Can't wait till Santonio is off our roster.  What a selfish player.  Just another one of Tannenbaums great moves.  The combo of Rex and Tannenbaum making roster decisions just has decimated this team.

Rex is a gonner, The Jets web site does not put up most of his press conferences anymore.

@a57se I'm actually surprised the inside numbers are that high.

Bent
Bent moderator

@a57se Are you really surprised at that?  With Brian Winters at guard?

Brendan
Brendan

@Jeffrey Cohen What did Holmes do that was selfish?

Was it his comments about his willingness to take a paycut to stay with the team?

@Bent @a57se heres one for you. hindsight is wonderful, but warmack instead of milliner, or does someone see milliner as being any good. yeah i know, the guard as a first rounder thing ......

.......

SackDance99
SackDance99

@Bent@a57seDefenses also stack the box because the QB is inexperienced and the receivers can't get separation.  Pretty tough to run inside with 3 guys clogging the A gaps.

@Bent@a57se

I was more surprised at Ivory's outside the Tackle numbers but his big runs the last few games have really helped.  Marty has Ivory running 60-40 inside vs. outside. that seems like a good split though it would be nice if his inside numbers were better!

@Geoff Dean

Milliner will probably be pretty good eventually.  And, no, I don't think taking a guard that early is smart.  I'm sure Warmack will be good, but you can find very good guards in the 2nd and 3rd round too...it's just not a good idea to start them for most of the season if it's obvious their technique is raw and they're overmatched physically.

The Jets would obviously have been better off this year if that's what they did, but you don't draft just for year one.

@a57se @arc34 @Bent Right back at you 57...keep thinking Vlad is good and the coaches opinions don't count....but you will be the first to say Rex should be back.....good grief!

@arc34 No idea.  I've only been a mod for a couple of hours and don't even know how the system works yet.

Just shut up already, you don't know what you are talking about...let the adults talk in peace.

@Bent @arc34 Vlads last game was amateur hour and he basically never saw the field again. We should have had a solid backup on line and at QB, we would probably still be in playoff hunt.

Bent
Bent moderator

@arc34 He did play.  He was a lot better than Winters when he did, against better competition.

Bent
Bent moderator

@a57se @Bent @arc34 They obviously saw a limit to his potential and figured that he wasn't in their long term plans.  They forced Winters into the starting lineup too early though and Peterman was never a viable option.

Moving Colon to the other side was a bad move too, all designed to accommodate Winters, who they see as their "LG of the future".

arc34
arc34

@Bent @arc34 If he was a lot better than Winters he would have played, period...he is not and hence has played very little since Winters took over.....I will stick with the evaluations of the coaching staff.

@Bent@arc34

Did Vlad piss someone off? It just really makes no frickin' sense.

Bent
Bent moderator

@arc34 He would have held the fort a lot better than Winters has.  Yes, there is a reason (more than one in fact) that they stuck with Winters, but that reason is not that he's better than Vlad, because he simply isn't right now.

arc34
arc34

@Bent @jaygo Vlad is horrible....there is a reason they stuck with Winters....along with a #1 and #2 WR, they will need a new LG and quality back up for next year.

Bent
Bent moderator

@jaygo If they just stuck with Vlad all season, they would have had a strong OL.

Bent

@jaygo

Howard, Colon and Ducasse are all out of contract.  I'd make bringing back the first two a priority.  If I was Ducasse and they tried to bring me back, I'd probably decline impolitely.

Winters should improve in year two (and who knows whether Aboushi and/or Campbell might show some growth too).  But, yeah, they need a Plan B if Winters doesn't improve.

Bent
Bent moderator

@MikeFrancesser I think they gave up on Ducasse already.

You're right of course, but that DOES represent an improvement.

If a little girl that's never made a free throw in her life makes her first one and then two weeks later makes two in a row, she's improving, is she not?

MikeFrancesser
MikeFrancesser

@Bent @MikeFrancesser I mean jeez...two consecutive blocks on how many offensive snaps?  The guy is an epic fail.  I hate that Ducasse got shafted this season.  Do you think the plan is to have Vlad at RG at some point, or maybe just throw him in the trash?

Bent
Bent moderator

@DarrolRayFanClub He falls down every other play and then gets up again.  That's your "up and down" season.

Bent
Bent moderator

@MikeFrancesser He showed some viable signs of improvement this week.  Two plays in a row he made good blocks that led to an Ivory 35-yard run and a Powell 15-yard run.  Two good blocks in a game was a rarity in the first half of the season, let alone in succession.

MikeFrancesser
MikeFrancesser

@Brendan @SackDance99 Winters is a horrific guard.  Total. Idzik.  Fail.  It's incredible how bad he looks on a weekly basis...showing pretty much no signs of improvment

Brendan
Brendan

@SackDance99 Four guys if you count the toppled Winters, scrambling to get up like a turtle on its back.

Joe/Orlando
Joe/Orlando

@Brendan @Joe/Orlando No, not at all.  You indicated his saying he's willing to take a pay cut is evidence he's not selfish.  I disagree because no matter what happens, he's taking a pay cut next year.  Which makes volunteering to take one is kind of meaningless.

Joe/Orlando
Joe/Orlando

@Brendan @DarrolRayFanClub But let's be fair here.  Holmes is scheduled to get paid about $10 million next year?  No one is paying him that kind of money.  He's taking a pay cut next year regardless, so volunteering to take one does not really impress me very much.

Joe/Orlando
Joe/Orlando

@Bent @a57se But whether he dislikes the media or Schotty isn't really the point, IMO.  It's his response to these things.  I'm sure other Jets players didn't like Schotty.  Some probably don't like MM.  Lots of players around the league probably disagree with or don't like their coaches or their situation.  But they don't all act like jerks in team meetings or melt down in the middle of a game over it.  Likewise with the media.  Santonio Holmes is not the only player who doesn't like the media.  But not every player who doesn't get along with the media acts as adversarial and childish about it as he does.

In a work environment dealing with people or things we don't like in a mature manner is all part of being a professional...and, frankly, it's part of being a grown up.  At some point, some responsibility has to fall on Santonio Holmes for the perception people have of him.

a57se
a57se

@Bent@a57se

He comes across as an a$$hat so I cam understand it.

Bent
Bent moderator

@a57se Boggles the mind that so many Jets fans are angry at Holmes when his worst two crimes are hating the media and not being a fan of Schotty.

Bent
Bent moderator

@DarrolRayFanClub Don't post too many spoilers - I haven't read it yet!

I'm sure any diva receiver (and most teams have at least one) would have incidents like these, but they do get blown out of proportion (along with lots of non-issues) by the media.

So far this season, just by charting one non-Jets game a week, I've seen DeSean Jackson, Dez Bryant and Steve Smith all do stuff worse than anything Holmes ever did and that's just off the top of my head.

Bent
Bent moderator

Should I really read more into these anonymous quotes collected by someone who clearly hates Santonio (and the feeling is mutual) than I read into the completely contradictory off-the-record quotes from players and coaches that I've collected myself and therefore know the source?

Bent
Bent moderator

@DarrolRayFanClub The really interesting part their is that the linemen evicted him from the huddle.  That's not how it was reported, with Rex initially being blamed for benching him, then being blamed for not being aware that the OC had benched him, then not being aware that the WR coach had benched him...

Brendan
Brendan

@DarrolRayFanClub Of course I remember that. Whether that was just a one-time thing, a festering hate-filled relationship with Schotty that boiled into his relationships with teammates, whether it's the god's honest truth, or whether it was true up until that point and he's been a great teammate since (his eyes were opened finally, or whatever) I don't think teammates who weren't even there when this all transpired would go to bat for Holmes in damage control. Those comments the past two seasons about how he's a great mentor for the younger players have to be real (unless something took place as insane as the front office/ownership demanding young players make those comments), so Holmes has been a good teammate the past few years and he was basically tossed off the field by Wayne Hunter after bitching in the huddle one time too many.

The guy seems like a good person away from football despite his portrayal in the media, so I try to give him the benefit of the doubt. If he is genuine in his comments about being okay with a pay-cut, wouldn't that finally prove he's not the selfish prick people make him out to be? I would love him back at a lower price.
