The Week 2 Power Rankings are out today. Rex Ryan will be jubilant to hear that most sites jumped him right over that 31st spot. See for yourselves.
Comments: Geno Smith was off target on four of 38 pass attempts (11 percent) in his debut. Mark Sanchez missed on 22 percent of his throws last year, fourth highest among qualified QBs.
CBS Sports Power Rankings: 26th (30th)
Prisco’s Comments: It’s Geno Smith’s job now, and it should be. He did some good things in his first game. The defense had a good day too.
FOX Sports Power Rankings: 30th (30th)
Billick’s Comments: I know the Jets actually beat the Bucs on Sunday, but I just can’t convince myself that the Jets are the better team. They stay in the bottom three for now.
NBC Sports / PFT Power Rankings: 26th (26th)
Florio’s Comments: Someone should register the trademark for “We won’t be 0-16!”
NFL.com Power Rankings: 28th (30th)
Harrison’s Comments: Thank you, Lavonte David. Perhaps lost in the MetLife madness on Sunday was this stat: Kellen Winslow caught seven balls for 79 yards and a touchdown. The Jets need to keep Winslow on the field and out of the trainer’s room. Oh, and before we forget … thank you, Lavonte David.
Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.comI had been asked to rank the Jets before the start of the season and I would have placed them at #20 overall as a starting point.
If the Jets can win this week against the Patriots, I would imagine that they would easily reach that mark, if not surpass it. It’s a tough game, but to win on the road at the Patriots home opener during a short week in front of a national stage? It would be a major statement by this team.
Let’s see what the rankers are saying come this time next week.
