What happened at Training Camp today?

SNY’s Andrew Johnston and Leonard Orman are at Jets Training Camp, and here’s their dispatch of what they saw and heard at camp…

Orman:

  • Dexter McDougle did not participate. Calvin Pryor was a limited participant while wearing a red non-contact jersey.
  • Oday Aboushi seeing plenty of reps at left guard and doing well. One of the biggest battles in camp is for the two guard spots.
  • None of the rookie receivers have stood out. Greg Salas has had a better camp than all three of them, and it’s not close. Interesting to see what the Jets will do.
  • Chris Ivory continues to look great.
  • After an impressive first week in camp by Daryl Richardson, he had a fumble during 11-on-11.
  • Jace Amaro has bounced back nicely past two practices
  • Jeremy Kerley makes it look too easy. Might be the hardest guy on the Jets to cover.
  • Stephen Hill had a big day. Caught a long touchdown pass and then beat Dee Milliner during red zone drills for a TD. Milliner also called for pass interference on the play.
  • Dimitri Patterson had a nice day. A very aggressive player. Milliner had an off day in pass coverage and in run support.
  • Both Tajh Boyd and Matt Simms didn’t do much during their limited reps in 11-on-11.

Johnston:

To come…

Greg Salas simply has the experience of having been in camps and on practice squads in the NFL so i would think he would look better than some rookies who are learning a whole lot of stuff.

Kind of like wrestling.  Your first tournament you're taken aback by all of the glamour, anticipation, adreneline etc etc.,  but after that they're all the same and you perform up to your abilities.

These young WR should make the team and at least be practice squaders like aboushi was last year.  It's a long term investment thing.

I'd really like to see oday aboushi earn a spot.  The guard play needs improveent.  with him and hopefully the mean dj dozier i'd like to think the future is looking bright.  If anything there's depth now.

Good write up.

One correction, Willie Colon is not fighting for a Guard spot.  The two youngsters are fighting for one starting guard spot.

That was one thing I noticed at camp too is how hard it is to cover Kerley. He cuts very well and has that short area quickness that makes it so difficult to stick with him. I mean dont get me wrong as an old CB I think I could handle him though.

I'm worried about milliner. If he plays as bad as he did at times last year we might be a 7-9 team.

The best corner in the NFL does not EVER get beat by Stephen Hill. Not Ever. #stfuDee

have heard that Hill is doing real well on other sites too, besides the reports here, yes I've been unfaithful, he has the athletic talent to be dominant once he learns to play as an NFL receiver, good to see Amaro coming along

@williamg1

If he can contribute this year,  it certainly makes last years draft a little better.

@Kyle Suta  MilIner recently said he was the best CB in the NFL

Revis did in training camp too. That's just the point, it's training camp. Some guys start quicker than others, especially guys with natural abilities like Hill.

I wouldn't read into that too much.

@bklyndude @williamg1 It's already pretty good. DROY, starting QB, CB and FB. Not saying they're all stars, but that's not a bad haul.

@juunit

  That was without Harrison up front. I want to see that again (Hill beating Revis with whomever you have at quarterback). And again Juunit I have said it before Kyle Fuller has the makings of a safety. We will see if he is cornerback material!

I agree he would make a good safety. But I expect he'll stick at corner. I've read he's impressed in camp so far. And corner on the Bears is a little easier since he'll have safety help, unlike he would if we'd drafted him.

But his little brother Kendall is the best of the bunch. He's got another two years of school to go though.
