Where will RB Chris Johnson play next?

Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.com

Running back Chris Johnson is expected to pick his new team within the next week.  So where will he end up?  From the chatter on the internet, here’s some unlikely and likely spots.

Saint Louis Rams — Johnson’s former coach Jeff Fisher is now in Saint Louis but it sounds as if the Rams coach won’t be reuniting with his old player.  While it’s classified as “not impossible” but there’s little interest … understandable what with Zac Stacy firmly entrenched with the Rams poised for a big season. — HIGHLY UNLIKELY

chrisjohnson.jpgDallas Cowboys — Despite early reports to the contrary, it looks as if the Cowboys are not serious about pursuing Chris Johnson according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.  — HIGHLY UNLIKELY

Buffalo Bills — The Bills were considered “top suitors” in trade talks prior to his release by the Titans, but now that is being refuted. The Bills were called to make the Titans look better, according to Tim Graham the level of interest wasn’t all that high.  Regardless, now that he’s been released it would seem an odd move for Johnson to go to Buffalo with CJ Spiller and Fred Jackson already in the backfield.   Now that the Bills have traded for troubled Bucs WR Mike Williams, the team might not have the bandwidth to consider adding Johnson as well.  — HIGHLY UNLIKELY

Miami Dolphins — The Dolphins were also in on trade talks, so could they be serious about adding him now that he is a free agent?  The Miami backfield is a mess and while the team has signed Knowshon Moreno, is the matter settled?  While Knowshon will compete for touches, Johnson seems able to step into the team as a starter.  Beyond Moreno, the problem of course is the offensive line.  Despite the complications, could the allure of all that is South Beach entice Johnson to head to Florida? — LIKELY

New York Jets — The Jets were said to be interested in adding CJ but were slow to contract Johnson’s people, if at all.  There’s a lot of silence around the Jets dealings with Johnson which is hard to interpret.  The Jets could do well to add a durable playmaker like Johnson to the team but don’t seem to be in a rush to do it. — LIKELY

Atlanta Falcons — The Falcons discussed trading for Johnson and adding him would increase the depth of the Falcons backfield exponentially and give the Falcons a 1 / 1A situation between Steven Jackson and Chris Johnson.  While both are aging players, there’s still some gas left in the tank and when Jackson inevitably has to sit, Johnson would be right there.  The Falcons have a solid offense all around with one of the best players in the game in Julio Jones … Johson could make himself a part of a resurging Falcons team at the right time. — VERY LIKELY

How much is Chris Johnson's contract likely to be. That is my reservation with him. Plus once he got the big contract he played like a big turd.

The more I really think about it the more I convince myself that either gilbert or Dennard will fall to 18. Only one team definitely should draft a cb and that's the lions and I could also see them taking a safety there secondary is horrendous and they left a void by cutting Delmas.

@a57se  you bring him in and cut Goodson. You bring him in because he fills a hole at RB for catching and running routes out of the backfield. he also adds a lot of speed to the offense. Very simple to understand

@Pat d  I would guess 2 years $8 million, $5 million guaranteed.

@a57se  Bill Polian rated Decker higher than he did Sanders.  He also gave Ford the same rating he gave Sanders. Think I'll go with the guy who not only got paid to evaluate talent he was one of the best GMs in the business.

@a57se  Mark Brunell said something on the television!?

@a57se  Doesn't Rex's son play for Clemson? Maybe Rex has seen him up close?

@a57se  Very interesting prospect. Looks like a 2nd rounder?

Like the fedora! Would be ok in the 3rd, great value at the top of the 4th. Don't think he'll last that long, but he would be a nice traditional pick up for the offense.

I still like Nicklas tho, but think he goes somewhere between our second and third picks.

I've seen more signatures on petitions calling to ban the "highly dangerous" chemical dihydrogen monoxide. Those campuses didn't ban water, SUNY Cortland won't ban Vick.

@a57se  Thats pretty stupid of those people. Ive been to Cortland for training camp and its a huge boost for the area. I dont think banning players will go over well with the FO. I dont think these animal lovers have thought this out very well. They are placing animal love above human prosperity. (Assuming its animal activist you didnt specify)

@lagoo  If either Dennard or Gilbert are there I belive we take them. Depending on how the board shakes out they would likely be BPA. Possibly Clinton Dix too.

@WW85  remember that guy Tomlinson? He came in when he was "old" and he did just fine for the Jets

@a57se @MeAtBaLLPaRmX  I like the WR, TE combo as well.  What do you think if Ebron is available?  Do you like the combo of Ebron +  Matthews/Adams/Robinson.  Over the WR in first TE in 2nd or 3rd?

@WW85 @a57se  I've seem him slotted in the 3rd, which looks about right based on the tape I've seen - little bit of a jack of all trades, master of none, but a nice safety blanket nonetheless

@a57se @juunit @Brendan  he's a tweener right now, his speed is excellent but at 6-6'1 230ish, he is a pure cover LB or a big safety. Would be an interesting sub for Harris/groomed into that role. OR a big SS like Allen and Dwan/LeRon. Youth & Speeds is ALWAYS good for D so why not!

Awesome, pretty jealous. Throw me some tickets if it happens please lol.

Well, yeah, good player, fills a need, etc. But I've known him since I was about 10. I'll never be a Jet, but if my friend can, that's the next best thing.

@a57se @bklyndude let's wait for it to be correct before assuming it is.

@a57se @bklyndude

According to Bent during the predictions phase of TJB contest,  he said most fans predicted the total contract Eric Decker would receive from an NFL team exceeded what he received from the Jets.  Which of course means most fans think Idzik did a good job signing Decker.

But you take it as an opportunity to pat yourself on the back and say Idzik has a deficiency in properly evaluating talent.   There are many people who think some of the contracts he did pass on were excessive. Maybe they were,  maybe there weren't,   there just opinions.  We will get to see a lot of DRC in the local tv market and see if he lives up to his contract or not.

@a57se @bklyndude

Fair enough but Polian is on record as saying the Jets overpaid for Decker...... something I thought at the time of the signing as he hadn't had another offer as far as we knew.

bklyndude

@a57se @boomer

Now you are upset with Idzik for over paying somebody.......what a joke.  You've been killing him because you said he has been under valuing free agents and doesn't know the market.  He finally pays for the best WR on the market to what most people feel was a decent contract and you are taking a minority opinion of Bill Polian to bash John Idzik.

Only in your world can you have it both ways.

@jaygo @Brendan @a57se  That isn't a helpful link, you are comparing a wr playing with PEYTON MANNING to a wr playing without PEYTON MANNING. Just a hunch but i would think they would say to start Stephen Hill if he was catching passes from PEYTON MANNING!

@a57se @Brendan  The same Mark Brunel who always supported Sanchez.

Also, you don't get to post something on a public forum and then decide who gets to respond.

Brendan

@a57se I agree. I can still question his opinion when I think it's made based on a hunch rather than any factual support whatsoever.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se Decker was a better receiver on deep balls, which is what Sanders is supposed to be best at. He doesn't run better routes, he drops less passes, but also gets to less balls (lower catch rate). He's not a better blocker, which seems to be a priority for the team.

You can just dismiss my comments because they're mine if you want, but Brunnell's comments are not based in fact, just his gut.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se Oh, should I pretend panic because Brunell thinks a guy who was worse than Decker in almost every statistical measure last year is an upgrade? I suppose that would add something to the discussion.

jma020

@a57se @MeAtBaLLPaRmX  I agree for the most part.  I just think Ebron has the highest ceiling of any of the players we've been discussing.  I can see ODB/Cooks each being solid WRs where Ebron may be a dominant force.  Either combination works for me.

Paulie Meatballs

I love Ebron, but I think ODB is too good to pass up. I think you can get great production out of Niklas. Either scenario works for me

@a57se  No Rex only scouted the good players we drafted Tanny did the rest of them.

You forgot your smiley face at the end.

@a57se  Luckily he has scouts to help out with that.

Still is quite minimal re Vick, but the media are going to make a mountain out of every ant hill this summer, never mind mole hill...
