Winslow back with Jets after suspension

Jeff Cumberland, Kellen Winslow

Kellen Winslow is back with the Jets after his four-game suspension for violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing substances. He did not appeal his suspension.

He believes the suspension stems from medicine he took to deal with his allergies.

“I’m not trying to go out and take illegal stuff,” Winslow said (Waszak).

He also said he was frustrated with his lack of playing time (Walder).

Regardless of what he tested positive for, Winslow’s return could not come at a better time for the Jets.  The Jets offense has been hard-hit by injuries over the first half of the season and Winslow can be a competent pass-catcher when healthy at this point in his career.  Winslow seemed to have a chemistry working with Geno Smith, but I’m not expecting the tight end to come in and put up seven consecutive hundred yard games either.

Winslow might not have been happy with his playing time so far this season, but he’s never been known as a fearsome run-blocker, so in this offense his time will need be limited because of that fact.  Any competitor is always going to want to see more time, see more passes thrown his way, so I understand that.  Even so, the man was out of football last year, so maybe a little perspective might be warranted if he expects to come in and be the focal point of this offense.
