2013 Roster Countdown: #67 Brian Winters

As we’ve done in years past, we’re doing our Roster Countdown series of posts as we get ready for the regular season.  See the full list of players we’ve covered so far here.

Position: Offensive Line
Height / Weight: 6’4” 320 lbs
Age: 22 / Experience: R
College: Kent State

Background: Winters attended Hudson High School in Hudson, Ohio where he lettered in football twice and wrestling three times during his career. He was named to the All-Ohio and All-Northeast Ohio Conference as a senior for the Explorers. Rivals.com rated Winters as a two-star prospect and he fielded several offers recruitment offers which included Syracuse, Akron and Kent State. Winters committed to Kent and was immediately inserted into the starting lineup as a freshman. He would start every game for the next four years and be named to the All-Mid-American Conference team three consecutive years. By participating in the Combine, he became only the school’s third player to do so. He was drafted in the third round by the Jets in April.

2013 Projection: While the Jets have added veterans Willie Colon and Stephen Peterman into the fray of the suddenly overcrowded offensive line, Winters is expected to be right in the thick of things. He has already drawn praises from head coach Rex Ryan following mini-camp and OTAs and will be monitored closely throughout training camp. He may not start initially but, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him in the lineup at some point through the season.
