Brian Bassett, theJetsBlog.comThe Jets are likely going to be out two starting safeties once free agency starts and one backup should they make the move to cut Eric Smith. There has been a drought of safeties who are solid in coverage in the past few years and this year the floodgates seem to have been released. Now, maybe the Jets bring back Yeremiah Bell since he could come cheap, but George Wilson might be an interesting option as well and would better serve the Jets in coverage. Wilson was cut over a $4.4 million cap figure (a $2.9 million salary) and he’s 32 years old. Wilson is still a solid player in coverage and is a willing contributor in run support. His days might be numbered, but he’s still able to play well enough and might be had at a value.
