Just a word of caution wrt in evaluating the value of ending the season by finally winning 2 consecutive games. The pluses, of course, are Saving Private Ryan (err, Rex Ryan), finishing at .500 and the setting the momentum for next year.

On the more impartial - analytical side (not negative, but pragmatic) is who the two wins came against and how the games were played. First, we all know the Browns stink so 'nuff said: you take the win and bank it The Miami win, however, is a lot more interesting because the Jets played lose and atypical. They essentially emptied the playbook and played with a nothing to lose attitude and beat a team with legit playoff potential. So now the question is "Is this the free-wheeling, attack oriented, non-Rex Ryan, trick-a-rious way the Jets are going to play in 2014 or not?"

If it IS the way we will play in 2014, then everyone who excelled can be evaluated at face value because that is how they will be used going forward. However, if that is NOT the way MM will be able to play because Rex believes in a dominant running game, playing it close to the vest and relying on his defense to protect wins, then the players are not going to used the same. If this is the case, then we have to evaluate all performances through this filter and not attribute rookies (or players with no NFL track record) solely to development.

If Idzik is going to build us a perennial contented, I trust this is the conservative perspective he's going to take when evaluating talent.

Who the heck is Trevor Knight?

I didn't even read the AFC East team piece. Hahahahahaha...Eff you, ESPN.

Why does PFF insist on ranking us below teams with worse records (like the giants)?

I imagine someone noted this (likely Bent) and I missed it, but we finally won two games in a row

Now let's grade the NY sports media! !

IMO the priority is finding a new accountant and fixing the cap and not let Ryan get involved and bank in FA like he did the past few years. That's going to be very hard to do. Now, stop it, Woody has been clear so shut all these stupid pinky threads: this off-season, no GM is allowed to fire Ryan ! Ryan will coach the Jets as long as possible. Hell, he even said last year "all I care is Romney winning the elections. I don't care about the jets, not winning the game. He knows he will never surpass NE, he knows the G-men are NYs team, two SBs in four years. What else is supposed to do ? Give the guy credit, he's brilliant, he bought out all the NYC monster medias and his mediocre franchise stars all the spotlight. Woody is a genius.

Good for Slauson for having a nice season but I don't remember him being great for us last year

Who is this clown Steve Silverman and what drug is he taking?

Jim Welker

Disagreed about keeping Ryan. Belichik is great because of Brady. It's all about the QB. Geno may become a serviceable QB, but he is not going to be elite.

Jim Welker

Agreed about Slauson. The Jets seem to always part ways with the experienced LG in favor of a green LG. They made the same mistake with Fanaca.

@ a57se

The QB from the Sooners didn't know he was coming out kid looked good.

@a57se Someone better than every QB in this draft besides Teddy.

@djf1 Because they look at teams objectively.  A team that is 8-8 is not necessarily better than a 7-9 team.

Because they like to piss off and on Jets fans?

Manish: F (for Fanciful "reporting")
Myers: D (for ___bag)

Costello: C (C for still driving the Clown Car)

Dyer, Martin, NJ.com guys: B (for Better coverage than the "Big" sources)

Waszak: A (for Almost Objective, and that's the best you can hope for)

Cimini (& ESPN): T ... for Troll, both the miserable kind that live under bridges and those who write the worst things to generate web Traffic.

@marshrandy He wasn't, but he always played hard and played through injuries. I think this was the first year he was primarily healthy since becoming a starter, actually.

Brendan
Brendan

@Jim Welker The Jets usually let their LG go because he's an aging veteran. Slauson just didn't fit the scheme very well. Good for him for getting paid, he's a hard worker and good teammate, but I'm not upset he's gone.

joemustgo

@Jim Welker And Kendall. I know he wanted big payday, but I think Tannenbaum's false promises are what killed any chance of him coming back.

@Brendan @a57se He made AJ look bad last night.  In fact, AJ may have become McElroy when the clock stuck 12.

@a57se @djf1 I don't get that impression.  They seem to be pretty fair elsewhere, but in the rankings they seem to be consistently a few spots lower than they should be, IMO.

@a57se @joemustgo  "

I am always amazed that someone (Steve Silverman-CBS) can just make stuff up...get it printed...and make it sound like facts:

"Idzik does not have the big picture in mind, and that’s why the Jets did not part company with Ryan on Black Monday."

"Idzik doesn’t want any trouble at the office. He wants to feel good about his working environment. He wants everybody to be happy and he wants football people to get along with each other."

Eli has 3 TDs in two Super Bowl wins and Flacco had 3TDs in last years Super Bowl. Maybe not elite but not bad. We will see how Geno develops.

@joemustgo @Jim Welker The difference is that while Slauson had a good season after leaving the Jets, Faneca and Kendall were absolutely terrible.

@jaygo@Brendan@a57se

I think AJ made AJ look bad last night!

After he got called for intentional Grounding (there have been a lot more egregious cases that haven't been called),

he looked really bad in the pocket when he couldn't find an open receiver right away.  Hung onto the ball way too long (I was having Sanchez flashbacks) and then looked like a chicken without it's head until Oklahoma mercifully sacked his arse.

Lousy ending his college career with that stinker!

Brendan
Brendan

@Bent There wasn't, but Rex called in a couple of favors and got one of Ines Sainz. Why else do you think they played so hard the final two weeks?

Bent
Bent

@djf1 @Bent @NYCPEinGermany Was thinking about this movie the other day and how Idzik's insistence on playing an oddball cast of has-beens and never-will-be's reminded me of that movie, especially how the team rallies around its coach and defies the front office by actually managing to be successful.

I wonder if there was a cardboard cut out of him (or Woody) in a bathing suit.

@Ɖ♂ற *º¤Ø♥ؤº*(°◡°♡) @marshrandy Holmes signed a $45m deal (from which he subsequently took a pay cut) and has received just $26m over four years with the Jets.  Not sure where you got $60m from.

@1969JAN12th @a57se @joemustgo First, it's not a terrible thing to desire a positive working environment.  Oh, know, coworkers like each other!

Second, it's just baseless opinionated conjecture anyway.

@1969JAN12th

As evidenced by his trading of the team's best player and fan favorite Darrelle Revis.

@joemustgo His turnstile "block" on Richard Seymour that got Pennington hurt in .00001 seconds after the snap was something to behold.

Bent

@joemustgo @Bent @Jim Welker Yes and the Jets went 4-12.  If they replaced Clarke with a "terrible, but at least he's not as bad as Clarke" Pete Kendall who they would have been paying more money to and therefore reducing what they could spend elsewhere would they have been any better off?
