Roster Rundown: #78 Wayne Hunter

Position: Offensive Tackle
Height / Weight: 6’5″ 318 lbs.
Age: 30 / Experience: 8
College: Hawaii

2012 Contract Status: Under Contract through 2014

2011 Analysis: Hunter was charged with 8.5 sacks and 11 penalties in his first year as a starter.  While Damien Woody might have been recovering from an injury and cost them more to play for the Jets in 2011, it can’t be understated what a step backwards it was for the Jets to play Hunter at Tackle.  Now granted, Hunter did have his moments, but they were just that … moments.  Play-in play-out over the course of the season is not his strength.  A game here or there, or a role for Hunter as a fine sixth lineman is fine, but to ask him to start  was a mistake, and the Jets had to protect him which caused D’Brickashaw to be on an island constantly, upping his own sack totals.  It was not a kind year for Hunter, and for a 30 year-old first time starter to play so poorly so much of the season can’t be repeated with a 31 year-old second year starter.

2012 Outlook: The Jets are going to have to ask Hunter to take a paycut and a reduction in role or else he’ll be cut.  If Hunter accepts the terms, he should stay on and compete against Vlad or whoever else the team might find in free agency or the draft to play the Right Tackle spot.  The Jets would be wise to find another Tackle in the draft that could be a swing tackle for the team.  While D’Brickashaw should be around for a long time to come, he’s already going into his seventh season with the team and injuries are going to start becoming more of a concern over the rest of the team’s LT career.

Random Thought: Hunter was a player that displayed Ryan’s hubris or optimism or whatever it is going into last season.  Last summer he gushed about Hunter, now let’s see what the team does with their RT this offseason.

Where is Tyler? Want to start rebuilding, get Tyler here, rid yourself of Chris Smith, get rid of Felton, Shump, JR, Aldrich and Beno and get some guys that can run the floor and shoot. Oh yea, get a coaching staff non related to CAA and actually run practice and coach

Sad truth is NYK will most likely not make playoffs , lose Melo , fire Woodson and ultimately start from stretch the hard way .

OR

They can trade Melo at deadline to Clippers in a multiplayer deal with Tyson and others and getting younger and faster.

Gee Wally, if Bargs isn't rebounding, he shouldn't be on the floor. This, just after giving Chandler a pass for his rebounding tonight even though since Chandler has come back, Bargs has regularly out-rebounded him. Nothing like a balanced review of the players.

Woody saying Toure was the reason they lost the game. What a cokesucker!

Not that this is all Woodson's fault but what a disaster of a weekend. Hopefully the organization goes in a different direction.

So Dolan basically promised the team that they're going to continue to be horrible...smh

Enough. Get out of NYC Woodson.

I guess playing the raps twice in the last two days did not give chandler enough time for chandler to take out his aggression on people....how bout starting the game with that fire

Orlando has moved ahead of us and if Philly wins, they will also.

This season is over, if you really have a plan for 2015, you have to trade Tyson. You can't just finish this season with 20 wins and not have a lottery pick and keep things the way they are. Tyson is not part of our future and has value.

If Woodson goes with the same starting llineup next game he is an idiot. Start Murry- THJr- SHump-STAT-Chandler... go to war with those guys. Enough of this Beno and Bargs crap.

Maybe Chandler should have shown that fight in the 3rd quarter

3-20 vs the NBA, outside of ATL, Orlando, bucks. Not sure that stat sinks in 3-20. If that's not the worst team in the NBA not sure what is.

Woody never tries to motivate---always with the f-ing clipboard.

So in typical Knicks fashion they lose, yet made the game respectable maintaining the status Quo, but the result is the same loss after loss after loss

Woody post game......we fought hard to make a run at the end.

Been saying this forever. The Clippers r the only team that we can get full value for Melo. They r also 1 of the few teams that he would resign with to ensure team they can trade studs ie Blake, Deandre, picks. Trade Melo!

@Jerry Gee Last night, it was whoever is the strength and conditioning coach, tonight it was Murry. He'll eventually throw everybody under the bus but JR and Melo. But I'm sure that Melo, back in NYC, is spending this Saturday night resting his ankle and not going out on the town.

He has to guard Stat or Bargnani's man as well as being the only guy who actually rotates and helps defensively.

@madskills Again, in so many sports, an endorsement by the owner usually becomes the kiss of death. Be patient.

Mr.Boots

@jax13 How about using more than two fouls nad knock some people down and grab the rebounds that he's allegedly being paid to get.

@Sandro Guedes Lowry's 32pts is equivalent to 15pts against everyone else but your point still stands.

@bockers Only players with any value are probably Melo, Chandler and Hardaway Jr.

tommy2b

@moneyball It doesn't matter. The Raptors never wanted Shump for Lowry unless a 1st round pick or THjr was included as well.

@jimmybx The Knicks haven't played well this year no matter who has been on the court. So far this season has been a complete mess.

Knicks_Fanatic

@jimmybx

You don't need those three guys to play defense. We've given up 109 points so far to a poor offense.

tommy2b

@jimmybx Leads him to playing hero-ball at times, though.

Mr.Boots
Mr.Boots

@tommy2b He has to guard Bargs man when Bargs is stuck out on the arc on a switch or running out on a corner shooter that the guards can't seem to cover.

This ones on me.

Mr.Boots

@OLD_KNICK@Mr.Boots@ExpectTheWorst Since Chandler has come back, Bargs has out-rebounded him and, of course scored more points regularly. You just heard Wally make excuses for Chandler's numbers by saying he's "confused" and "out of place on the arc." You never hear them make the same case for Bargs.

Seems like Woody and the post-game guys have no problem trashing Bargs and excusing Chandler. Bargs can't perform 4th quarter if he's sitting or open constantly and not getting the ball. They are wasting what they paid for him. Look at the numbers.

Denver traded it to Orlando.  The Magic are sitting pretty in the 2014 draft lottery.

yeah they could've run out the clock
