Two weeks ago the hope was that the Jets would be able to use the bye week to help them get healthy. While some of those players who were nursing injuries will be ready to go this weekend, according to Rex Ryan Joe McKnight and Kenrick Ellis won’t be among the players making the trip.
“Kenrick was limited in practice and he’s just not quite ready to play, so hopefully next week he’ll be ready to go,” Rex Ryan told reporters today. “Joe McKnight, it’s one of those type of deals where, if he can get 25% better by not playing in a game, it’s probably time to do that. That’s why we’re going that route, and hopefully get him back where he can practice and play.”
Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.comEllis’ absence will more pressure on Sione Pouha this weekend. With Marshawn Lynch carrying the ball for Seattle, it’s going to make it that much more difficult for the Jets defensive line.
As far as McKnight, the gentle certainly missing on special teams and in mixing up the offense. As Ryan points out, if keeping McKnight out of the game this weekend helps them over the next seven, then that’s the better plan. Of course if the Jets were planning any use of the Wildcat, then this will make it harder as they won’t be able to rely on McKnight as their pitch option.
