Scouting Report: Most familiar with the perimeter game in the Yellowjacket offense, so scouts will be on the lookout to see how he reads defenses and seams between the tackles, as well as how well he can catch the ball. Hard-nosed player who falls forward on contact and who might be better than expected in the passing game. Will need to be tested on his pass protection skills as well as his agility/quickness to know how effective he could be in pros.
Notes: While he might not have gotten the opportunity to be a feature back due to playing in a triple-option offense, Georgia Tech’s Orwin Smith got a chance to prove how he projects to the pros with an eight carry 42 yard performance during much of the second half in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. ESPN’s Kevin Weidl was impressed with his play and thought his game Saturday was quicker and more decisive than during his week of practice. Smith showed some promise from his play in the Collegiate Bowl but will need more time with teams for them to determine his projection in the pros.
