Amaro on sidelines, Pryor not in pads for Wednesday’s practice

Rookie tight end Jace Amaro is on the sidelines as Wednesday’s Jets’ practice begins. Amaro is wearing pads, though.

Rookie defensive back Calvin Pryor, who suffered a concussion over the weekend, is on the sidelines, sans pads and a helmet.

This is the third practice Pryor has missed since Saturday.

Bring back Ed Reed!!!!

@CLoprestiWFAN

Demario just talked about how much they learned from Ed Reed last year. Said he's trusting his film study more. #NYJ

Sounds like Amaro is a bust...

Second round has not been good to us...

Just a brainstorm. Anybody think it might be a good idea for the #1 offense to OCCASIONALLY play the #2 D? considering Geno is still trying to progress, let the offense gain some confidence?  Just seems like going up against this DL when you are trying to break in a sophomore QB & new receivers can be a tough battle

Boyd really sucks

@SethWalderNYDN

Boyd throws his third pick of the day. Bad one, caught by LB Steele Divitto.

@DarrylSlater

Tajh Boyd has three interceptions today, including one in 7-on-7 drills. Only six practices into camp, but Boyd has looked brutal.

@WW85

The easiest way to defeat this defense is to take an eight step drop and then launch a 50 yard pass to the three wide open guys downfield.

@WW85 I hear you, but the flip side is Geno practicing against that buzzsaw every day will make lesser units seem like #2's, in a way.

@jaym

Boyd is really making it hard on Rex.  I know Rex wants to keep "his boy" Boyd.  But Simms is looking much less sucky from what I hear.  But whoever it is that gets kept will be on the PS, so I don't know if it matters much.

@jaym Maybe he'll be competing with Tommy Bo for the FB spot.

@WW85 He'd be the best safety on the roster if he signed today.

pretty slick right ?

@Disgruntled Jets Fan I agree, but of course it's not all the time. I mean if you don't know what it feels like to score against a defense, then what's your confidence like in a game?

WW85
WW85

@Brendan Just occasionally. It's got to wreck your confidence to face this DL non stop. Could be doing more harm than good if the offense cant sustain any drives in practice.

Boyd is the QB version of Scotty McKnight. Drafted low as a favor due to connections, not good, cut soon.

@williamg1 Just don't forget that I called Tajh Boyd/Michael Robinson 2.0 first.

@juunit "Egnew bad" must be code for "so bad people forget you exist 2 seasons after you're drafted." God, I hope Amaro isn't that.

@Marvel_ Haha, you are trying to defend Boyd? Why not pick something a bit easier, like defending FIFA?

Brendan

@WW85 I think there's something to what you're saying if an offense is completely useless and you're just lining up and getting your heads kicked in every play, every practice.

The fact that this year's offense is at least counter-punching the defense is a good sign of improvement.

Brendan
Brendan

@WW85 Well, Geno has been making plays against them, so that has to be a boost.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, btw. But I don't really know if it has any true value, what you're suggesting. I guess there's only one way to find out, though.

@brendan & Simms stinking it up in his 3rd year as a pro & 2nd in this system is much worse than a rookie who didn't play in a pro-style offense in college stinking it up.

Simms **should** be outplaying Boyd by a large margin but he hasn't yet.

@Disgruntled Jets Fan

As Jaym states above.  "Only Boyd can go on the practice squad ". So that might make him the obvious choice to keep, because we will not keep 3 qb's active throughout the season.  Even though Boyd isn't as good.

@Brendan @Marvel_ There's no defending FIFA...

...it's a terrible game and not a patch on Pro Evo.

@Brendan Our offense has sucked for so long. I wonder if it's worth just giving these guys some confidence & see what it feels like to score occasionally

Bent

@WW85 @Brendan They do that anyway 85.

In the G/W scrimmage it goes 1 v 1, 2 v 2, 1 v 2, 2 v 1 and so on and regular practice takes a similar format a lot of the time in 7v7 or 11v11's

@Bent just one practice a week for example. IDK. Just brainstorming. Playing an elite D every day when you barely know your fellow offensive teammates & tendencies has got to be tough.
