Milliner could miss the season opener, Jets got a lot of CB and DB's but not legitimate starters

All the more reason for the DL to pick-it-up-a-notch (relative to preseason game 1).  A great front 7 can mask weaknesses in the  CB's.

This dude picked off geno smith and Michael Vick with the first team today! Start this dude at corner asap!

First time commenting on the site, but a long time avid reader, I really love this look that Rex is showing and honest really surprised in a good way how AA is handling it.  Should be a great move if it pays off.

I'm curious if it's really the plan to play him at straight-up CB... Should be really interesting to watch. Definitely one way to get Pryor, Landry and Allen out there at the same time.

Great move by rex. Allen will play well at corner and be able to defend bigger receivers. And it will keep field general landry on the field. And it looks like it will work given he had 2 int.

Remember how he covered gronk. Ya receivers are faster but he is all about coverage. I think it will help us get interceptions all season.

Figures, a safety would play CB at practice and have more interceptions in one practice then any of the other CB's!

Rex spreading the sunshine...great line by the Cimidiot.

Hmmm...wonder if we could strike gold with Allen at CB. He's certainly athletic enough, and with Pryor and Miles we have the depth at Safety...smart Rex.

I brought up Joe McKnight yesterday on the blog for a reason

I KNEW that Rex would get creative and move a non CB to corner just like he did with McKnight

I like Allen

Heck if Allen goes down Rex is mad scientist enough to put Vick at cornerback (lol)

@Tyrone Fleming Was not even listed as third string on the depth chart they released.

Reports were that he looked great at minicamp, so the fact they had six guys ahead of him might be good news for our current depth.

@Marvel_ To be fair, he did it in the opposite direction, which I feel is more common than the way Allen's heading.

@Marcus Armstrong I could definitely see them going with three-safety looks (to give the OC a misinformed idea of the defense coming) and then have AA line up over a WR in a standard look, bring the heat and hope he can stalemate a WR at the LOS or something.

It's all about those extra little wrinkles for Rex on defense, and AA being even adequate in short stints out there would give Rex a new wrinkle.

@a57se Jason Babin an interception, too. More than any of the corners out there! SOJ!

@Brendan @Marvel_ But its usually harder going from S to CB.  Converted safeties usually convert because of lack of twitch speed that made them adept at playing adequate man coverage.  Switch to free safety usually means they can play a little slower and dissect the play a little longer then a CB, although they still have to have good to great center field vision and anticipatory skills.

I have been looking all morning for an example of a Safety moving to CB and I can't find one.  Do you know of an example.

@drjreefer @bradysucks we'll be knowing now....I love how Rex's mind works with the D.  He has a lot of pieces to work with even after yesterday.  They may not be the best  pieces but I'm curious to see how he adjusts.

I can't believe that after the practice that we just had we are still talking about the CB situation.  Yes there are questions that need to be answered.  But we have the right guy in Rex to work through it.

The topic that should be discussed is the Offense.  We just lost a couple corners and the Defense dominated practice.

Mel Renfro of the Cowboys moved to corner from safety in I think 1971.  He also had Cornell Green as a teammate who swung back and forth between corner and safety.

They also won two Superbowls in '71 and '72.

@jsadolph For some reason I remembered Bryant McFadden going from Safety to CB but I can't find anything supporting that.

@jsadolph Seattle drafted S Eric Pinkins in hopes to turn him into a CB but I think they ditched the idea after two days of training camp.

@Marvel_ Yeah, I worded that poorly. Rolle went CB > S. Allen is going S > CB.

Brendan
Brendan

@jsadolph Well, he's very short, so if he's facing a DL of giants (which the Jets certainly have) it's bound to happen. But yeah, I've been noticing it commented on a lot lately.

There is an issue of concern that seems to be overlooked and that even with Milliner, Andrew Luck simply tore through the defense with his passing.   That will be the template for Jets' opponents despite our elite run defense.  Guess it's the "more than one way to skin a cat offense".

@BDarc23 @jsadolph

Your right.  McFadden played FS at FSU and subbed in at corner.  Then he was drafted by Pitt and was moved to Nickel CB.

That sounds a lot like AA.

oh lol..gotcha

I did not know that, thats why he was so comfortable filling in at CB last season..

@Disgruntled Jets Fan

I'm not saying lets panic.  I'm saying the D will still click even with a couple of pieces missing. I think Rex has a LONG history of fielding a consistantly good D.

I just want to hear about how the O was doing today.  I haven't heard anything about anyone but AA>

@jsadolph @BDarc23 so we would it be safe to think wilson moves back to the outside and AA becomes the nickel CB?

Geno threw a TD to Nelson. I think he was like 10-17.

Honestly I don't really take what happens in practice seriously.

(Cue the Allen Iverson clip)
