Barnes questionable for start of training camp

OLB Antwan Barnes may not be ready for the start of training camp due to issues with his knee, coach Rex Ryan said Wednesday (NY Post, June 4).

Barnes, 30, tore his ACL during Week 5 last season, at which time he had two sacks.

He is due to earn $1.2 million this season.

Barnes played well in the limited time that he saw during the 2014 season, but Barnes being unable to start training camp doesn’t bode well for his chances of making the final 53 man roster.

With Calvin Pace (10 sacks) back from last season in addition to rookies Trevor Reilly and IK Enemkpali on the roster now it will make carving out a sub-package role for a player who might not be best suited on special teams.

I'll be absolutely shocked if he isn't on the roster.  I don't think we've had a chance to fully appreciate just how good this guy is.  Okay, if his knee is never right and he can't get back to 100% then that would be a shame, but if either of those rookies are good enough to outperform a guy I consider to be one of the top situational rushers in the entire league, that's an amazing find with a late rounder.

Not good. Was looking for Barnes to help our pass rush. This and Milliners' hammy, along with McDougles slow start is troublesome. Luckily, we have time.

@Bent Completely agree!! The guy is a QB killer, lets see the actual facts on the knee before we kill him off. They can just be playing it safe with him knowing the true value he has. He jumps off the screen when he is out there, so fingers crossed that this is more precaution then the end.
