Chris Johnson

Buzz: Chris Johnson visiting Jets facility, taking physical

Free agent running back Chris Johnson is visiting the Jets facility on Tuesday. It is his first visit with a team since being released by the Titans.

Update – 11:48 a.m.: Johnson will take a physical with the Jets on Tuesday (Mehta, April 15).

Update – 9:56 a.m.: “I would be very surprised if New York Jets don’t sign Chris Johnson,” Manish Mehta said (April 15).

Update – 9:12 a.m.: Multiple reports confirm that Johnson is at the facility today in Florham Park. (ESPN, April 15)

Update – 9:01 a.m.: Johnson was spotted last night in the Morristown.

Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.com

Johnson might be signing with the Jets today, but then again the cagey John Idzik might just be feeling him out for a signing closer to the NFL Draft.  Either way, the Jets could stand to benefit from adding a durable player like Johnson into a contributing, not fulltime role.

Teaming up the more dynamic Johnson with Chris Ivory would give the team some excellent versatility.  Ivory would be the harder-nosed between the tackles player while Johnson could give the team more of a “home run” threat outside the tackles and in the passing game.

Johnson has been one of the most durable running backs in the league for years, but periodically spelling him won’t be a bad thing for his longevity and it adds an upgrade to the team if/when Chris Ivory gets injured.

The expression, "The ________ won't let him leave the building without a contract", seems to have not applied in the Jets/CJ case.

Did the Jets not want a second date with CJ, or did CJ avoid any Jets advances?

I think CJ could be explosive in Marty's Offense, so I'm excited at the prospect of bringing him in. It would be interesting to see if Marty could use him the same way he did Shady McCoy. However, I am a bit skeptical too; last year when the titans brought in Greens to share the workload, CJ was pretty unhappy with sharing touches, especially at the goal line. That's why I don't understand why he would want to sign with the Jets, knowing he would be in a similar situation. I really hope he's not just using the Jets to get a better deal somewhere else. Let's be real this guy wants to get paid and I doubt Idzik is going to offer him something that's appealing to his ego. With that said, I still hope he's a Jet.

So CJ is at the Knicks game which means he's still in NYC, not heading to Atlanta as claimed by somebody below.

Seems as long as another team isn't willing to pay more then 4mil he'll become a jet.. This has gone bad before though but I can't see someone dishing out that sorta cash for cj1k

Would be a logical pickup at around $3m per or less. Really gives them plenty of flexibility to stockpile much needed D-backs along with a stud WR.

Goddamn it sign this guy already

what about Ivory? let's run him to the ground before we start looking at other FA that could be starters and cost a lot of money

Apparently Idziks believes he can get a better RB in the draft. Isn't going to overpay for a RB who is on the down side of his career.

Unfortunately Johnson has left the Jets facilities without signing a contract. Johnson is flying to Atlanta to meet the coaching staff

And tour there facilities.

@Tequila Joe  I had no idea the Jets were 6th in rushing last year .  Not bad, not bad at all.  With CJ, more damage could be done while affecting positively the passing game.   Get it done!

That must be a CJ lookalike. Because the CJ to Atlanta news came from a "very reliable" source inside this blogosphere. :)

Can't blame him. I wouldn't pay him more than $2.5M. I just hope people didn't get their hopes up. I get the feeling that if he signs elsewhere, quite of few people on here are gong to be very upset.

Yeah, I knew that was bogus bc even if the poster did know somebody at the Jets facility there is no reason why CJ would announce where he's heading next. "Thanks all, I'm off to Atlanta!"

@williamg1 I wont be upset ..,,How can you expect anything different

Personally I hope they draft a young RB who will give the Jets 5+

Solid seasons. Johnson is clearly on the decline.

Was this sarcastic? .colon is servicable but there were better guards out ..there ..sorry im not counting resigning the same people as upgrading the talent.

Colon and winters are hardly a formidable pair of guards..demand better strive for better you deserve it

@Monty Thats disturbing.

Does Idzik get any credit for resigning our leading scorer and one of the most accurate kickers in the league?  How about our best special teams tackler?  Starting left guard?  And all to team friendly deals.

Or is that not important?

Monty
Monty

@Steven Windeler @Monty@williamg1Im not upset at all..Saying that idzik has not upgraded the talent of this team.. or done his job well is not being upset. Its just an opinion based on many facts..

he added Vick breno , decker and patterson, and let howard , holmes, sanchez and cro go.that is all he has done..not enough given the players available and the money we had..pretty pathetic haul really..just an opinion based on facts..

. but Im not upset about it I just want people to realize that this season could be lost before the first preseason game.

:)

I wouldn't say clearly.. Of course you can't expect 2,000 yards that's crazy. Let's not forget he had a banged up knee all last season.

@Joseph

The good part about CJ is his workhorse durablity andd speed.

Is he on the decline? Possibly, but he could give us three good years injuries aside which can happen toa 21 y.o. rookie.  Pros and Cons prevail.

I think they'll draft a RB in the fourth round, regardless.   It's the right play, whether they land CJ or not.    CJ could be a nice addition to the current O, but it wouldn't hurt to carry a fourth back again this year if that back is a Sims, Freeman, Carey or Saestrunk, etc.   (I'm assuming here that Goodson's out in this scenario.)

Monty
Monty

@JosephI would love for them to draft a running back..but do you do it after corner wideout guard and tightend..?It would be nice to get better pre draft..

@boomer @bklyndude @Joseph  Erika previously said he's heading to the Giants and Bills if he does decide to make any more visits.  No mention of Atlanta who were rumored to be out of the running.

@bklyndude @Joseph  That sounds a lot more like a deal is being worked on than he's off to visit others.

@Joseph I was kidding. I've heard many rumors from inside sources and they usually start with "I heard from a very reliable source"

If it's true then she really should be fired. Your friend may be reliable, but not very loyal.

@Joseph  I love news being broken here, and not by the clowns covering the team.

The fact they haven't reported it, tells you how tight a ship the FO is running these days. Gotta give them credit for that.

But only if your source is right.

@bklyndude @a57se

Look at my original post.......I said certain people would dismiss this. Who do you think I meant with that?

Brendan, the DR. and others who have strongly espoused their support......My post was intended for those who are not so sure about it and still have open minds on the subject as they get plenty of the other on this Blog......

Brendan just gets paranoid about anything that might be critical of himself. Typical drug addict mentality.

bklyndude

@a57se @bklyndude

You couldn't find any studies on drinking too much at football games and driving home after the games and getting DUI's as more of a problem in society than pot.

Brendan

@bklyndude It's 57's playing dumb that irritates me. "Oh? Whats that? No, I just happened to post this here when I know certain members partake because I have this incessant desire to try and prove constantly that I'm smarter than they are."

To this comment he'll reply that he doesn't have to prove anything and he's comfortable with himself etc, etc, which is why he has stated in the past in the TJB chat to people that post here that he's "never wrong" (clearly) and he's "smarter than everyone on TJB."

Just more childish games from the "mature" 57, 'tis all. Not actually bent out of shape about it, it's just obnoxious that he plays innocent like this.

@a57se @brendan

It comes across as preaching.

There are certainly many health risks that affect people,  why does this one have more meaning,  especially on a football blog where drinking is more of a problem at football games ?

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se People don't come to a Jets blog to read health articles, 57.

I would think health conscious people would be interested in following this type of thing to see if there is more to it.

@Brendan @a57se

Did you actually read the whole thing....the Dr. who did the study clearly says:

"  Breiter also acknowledged the problems of analyzing a very small study sample – but said that their findings should still serve as a wake-up call to others.

“This study is just a beginning pilot study, but at the same time, the results that came out are the same as a canary in a coal mine,” Breiter said.  “...The interaction of marijuana with brain development could be a significant problem.”

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se Okay, I'm going to do a case study on 20 people from Houston vs. 20 people from NY and prove NY has smarter people living in it. Fair?

@Brendan @a57se

Hey, if you don't agree, what is the harm....I thought it was an interesting piece worth thinking about for anyone who chooses to partake.

Certainly not trying to argue for or against it.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se You are seriously the worst person who posts here. You did this to start an argument.

"For their most recent study, Breiter and his team analyzed a very small sample of patients between the ages of 18 and 25: 20 marijuana users and 20 well-matched control subjects.  The marijuana users had a wide range of usage routines, with some using the drug just once or twice a week and others using it every single day."

WOW! Twenty users!

As a side note, it doesn't surprise in the slightest that you get your news from Fox News.

@Brendan @a57se

Nothing just like the Mets, soccer, Game of Thrones, Mississippi Delta Blues and many other topics have nothing to do with the Jets.
