Update – 11:50 a.m.: Antwan Barnes has been placed on injured reserve, ending his season. Ricky Sapp has been re-signed to the active roster.
The team also signed DT Terence Barnes to the practice squad, and released DT Junior Aumavae.
In the Monday night game against Atlanta, pass-rush specialist Antwan Barnes left the game and was unable to return. So how serious is Antwan Barnes’ injury? When asked about it, Rex Ryan told reporters on Tuesday that “he wasn’t able to finish the game, obviously, so that doesn’t look good.” Ryan then declined to give more details until today when the team returns to the practice field. That’s never a good sign from Ryan.
This morning, Barnes tweeted the following:
Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.comIt’s an ominous tweet from Barnes. Just based on the wording one would think the linebacker might not be back all that soon. Barnes is having a good season for the Jets, ranking 27th overall in the league among 3-4 OLBs, being most effective as a pass rusher.
After releasing Ricky Sapp late last week, the Jets will have to consider what they do at the position going forward. Expect the team to re-sign Ricky Sapp for today’s practice.
