Buzz: Jets Interested in Mohamed Massaquoi?

While names like Brandon Gibson and Braylon Edwards have been mentioned as potential 2013 signings by the Jets, another name has surfaced.  According to ESPN NY’s Rich Cimini, the Jets are showing some interest in former Brown WR Mohamed Massaquoi.

Massaquoi never amounted to much in Cleveland, and at best would represent a backup with upside for the Jets, much as Schilens did in 2012.  Massaquoi was a well regarded middle-round prospect coming out of Georgia in 2009, but has languished in Cleveland.  Believe it or not, Massaquoi was one of the more consistent players in Cleveland during a dark time.  Massaquoi is known as being a physical receiver who runs his routes well.  Massaquoi has good hands and can be an effective pass-catcher across the middle.

At the time he was drafted, former Jets assistant Brian Daboll was the OC in Cleveland and ran a variant (albeit a poor one) of the New England West Coast Offense.  Since then,  Daboll has bounced around and as of 2013 has returned to the Patriots.  So, Massaquoi’s skills might work well in a functional WCO … the stress being on the word, functional, but signing a player like him has to come with low expectations.
