Whatever Vick is saying about not starting, and Geno is saying about starting at this stage is a hapless exercise: the reality, and I noted this in a prior post, is that the coaches and Idzik, for that matter. are going to start the guy who gives the Jets the 'best chance to win', if I may use the time-worn phrase. Did the Jets really sign Vick for $5 million to sit and tutor Smith? I really doubt it. They are simply preparing for the very real possibility that during the preseason, Geno Smith will continue to make very serious mistakes out on the field, and hurt the Jets. If that happens, Vick starts. I don't think anyone's favored at this point. My hunch, though, is that Vick starts game 1.

My feeling is the Jets are better off starting Vick......

If the Jets start Geno and he falls on his face and you replace him with Vick it sets back Geno's confidence,.....

If you start Vick and then Geno replaces him it could have the opposite effect,,,,just like when Foles replaced Vick...

I think some time on the sidelines would probably do Geno some good......especially if Vick looks a little bit better than Geno in camp

Vick wants to start.......

Nothing anybody says matters.....What matters is how Geno looks on the field. The job is Geno's to lose......Vick will look like Vick which means elite arm strength and experience running Morninweg's offense.....This means Geno needs to look better or else

Over analyzing these comments from Vick is a waste of time...

Vick has a history of lying - in the dog fighting case, in his marijuana use, in his role in the Quanis Phillips shooting.  He's lied to teammates, coaches, and even women like Sonya Elliot whom he gave herpes.  You can't trust a word the guy says.

Who are the 3 players Jets could target in the first round, Seems like the closer we get to the draft.

the more clarity we have. This article makes a lot of sense to me.

@bradysucks  If Geno starts, fails and Vick needs to be brought in he's probably not going to be the long-term answer, or at least not guaranteed that role going forward, so his feelings probably aren't the team's greatest concern in that scenario.

@bradysucks  Of course he wants to start, the point is that he realizes this is about Geno and not him. No one is over analyzing them, but if he came out and said "that job is mine!" you and everyone else would take them and run with them. He said, without a shred of doubt, that this is about Geno.

I really think Vic has made big mistakes and has learn from them.I think  he's growing up.

I just hope we come away with either OBJ, Cooks or Ebron.

@bob He went to jail a while ago, since then he's been a backup, a starter, and a backup again. He hasn't once raised issue in his locker room and his team made the playoffs in the year that he was benched (which would be difficult if he was a jerk ripping the locker room apart - something that probably could have happened given the support he still has with the players over there). Everyone who either wants the Jets to fail or expects them to has been setting Vick up as a villain this offseason, but nothing he's done in the past 5 years indicates he will be.

I agree with you, Bob-o, except I think he's already grown up.

Well if we get lucky enough to have those 3 guys on the board I guess that would be a hard dicision to make.

@bob @ramble914It would definitely be a tough call, but I would go with Cooks! There is just too much good stuff in this guy that we need.

Any of those three however would be fantastic, don't get me wrong...

A TE in round two would be the icing on the cake! (Amaro please)
