It's a good hire for Cleveland. And for the Jets. One less defensive coach in the AFCE!

Interesting stat I just saw on twitter: Jeremy Maclin has scored a TD more recently than Hakeem Nicks

All this nonsense about Pete Carroll, and the fact that he is successful now doesn't negate the fact that he was the worst coach the Jets ever had. Kotite had a worse record, but his team never quit on him. The way that the team played for Carroll was one of the most disgraceful displays ever. He HAD to be fired because they were stealing from the fans and it couldn't be disguised.

"I mean, you don't get rid of a guy like [Darrelle] Revis and then get rid of a guy like Cromartie.''

Obviously Jammer has never heard of the New York Jets....

If you guys read that book, Rex is very big on having his own coaching tree and he always wanted Pettine to get a HC gig. Same with a lot of his coaches.

On a side note, I feel bad for Wayne hunter cuz of this book too.

@Marcus Armstrong I agree.  I'd rather face more offense-happy teams that Rex can stop, rather than good defenses.

@Marcus Armstrong We (Browns fans) are starting to get pretty excited about the Pettine hire.  He seemed like a blah candidate at first, but after reading up on him, it definitely seems like he's ready for the jump to HC.  Here's hoping the toxic negativity around my favorite team doesn't prove to be too much for him like it was for Chudzinski.

@Marcus Armstrong And another notch in Rex's coaching tree, not bad for a big fat dummy idiot push-over.

@fourbtenLeon Hess made coaching the Jets impossible and the front office was a joke after Steinberg's death/illness.  Hiring Richie Kotite was emblematic of the Hess ownership period and his impatience with Carroll, who was trying to change the culture of the Jets along while growing in the role of HC, was a disgrace.  Players couldn't wait to leave the Jets after Carroll was fired and Pete was Lombardi and Noll combined compared to Kotite.

@fourbtenCarroll never lost that team. Read what Esiason & others have to say about that season. Hess never liked Carroll much & he loved Kotite for reasons we will never understand.

@fourbten

Are you a Leon Hess descendant? There is no way you can say that Kotite was better than Carroll., that is just silly.

@Jeff E. GuyYeah, and you don't get rid of a guy like Lawyer Milloy and then get rid of Ty Law....

At the salary that they are both making yes you do get rid Revis and Cro.

@Jeff E. Guy Who the hell cares what Quentin Jammer thinks about the Jets' roster?

@Brendan i was surprised to see all the defensive guys who came from brian billicks coaching tree who was an offensive coach

Why sign guys who are constantly injured like Nicks & Maclin!??! Makes no sense unless the contracts are incentive driven based on playing time and performance...

MarshRandy
MarshRandy

@bob @MarshRandy I'm anti-Nicks at the contract I'm assuming he'll ask for. But if we can get him in a highly incentivized deal then I think that could work out great

@a57se@fourbtenThey were both terrible, obviously. Only as Jets fans could we have such a discussion. It's like choosing between syphilis and gonorrhea.

But the team QUIT on Carroll - unforgivable.

@jaygo @fourbten He didn't have to leave,he resigned to become the Seahawks coach before the charges came out..

DrJonathanReefer

He reads like a really good hearted guy, from a very tough background who worked his tail off but then got death threats from our fan base.

If that's not a confidence killer nothing is. The toxic jet fans and media destory another mans life.

Brendan

@djf1 Seeing a grown man receive death threats for how he plays a sport is pretty terrible.

@Marcus Armstrong @Pat Leonard this is a huge draft for the browns...they are a young team on the verge of being good with 2 first rounders...if they mess up this draft they should move to baltimore again

Pettine is pretty well liked by most Jet fans. He also has the benefit of learning from some of Rex's mistakes. I think he'll be a winner.

The Browns have the draft picks to get their QB in this draft. Two in the first round.

Pat Leonard
Pat Leonard

@Marcus Armstrong Like the Jets, the Browns would be a much better team if they had consistent play at QB.  We're hoping the front office can get it right and find that guy in this year's draft, but who knows.  As for Pettine, I'm very interested to see what he can do with Barkevious Mingo.  Mingo has too much talent to have the mediocre rookie season that he had.

Hank couldn't have said it better

@fourbten

No, a few players that would have been purged from the team quit on Carroll. Leon Hess decided to take charge and showed just how little he knew about football.

The USC charges were BS. if you read what really happened, it's pretty clear that the most serious allegations related to Reggie Bush had nothing to do with Carroll.

Pat d
Pat d

The USC violations were not as great as other recent violations at other schools but USC made the mistake of not cooperating with the NCAA investigation.

@johnnyl65 He knew they were coming down the pipeline and left ASAP. Granted, it was a promotion, but to say the impending sanctions played no part is naive.

@Brendan @djf1 Oh, I thought you meant there was additional info in the book.  We already knew about those.

@Hanknaples @Brendan Hank you're stupidity is mind blowing.  You think Brendan was saying the two things are equal? Please stop posting.

Brendan
Brendan

@Hanknaples I agree that you should be allowed to express anger towards an athlete sports team, but it has to be within reason.

Telling a guy he sucks? I think it's petty, since none of us could ever even hope to be as good as a professional athlete who sucks, but fair.

Telling a guy you hope he dies in a flaming car crash? Overstepping standard lines of decency.

Brendan
Brendan

@Hanknaples Just going to take a guess, but I think he mentioned South America because Colombia, which you mentioned, is in South America.

Brendan
Brendan

@Hanknaples Hank, that's irrelevant to what we're talking about. You're saying we shouldn't feel bad for Hunter, because people have it worse. That's illogical. You can feel bad for Hunter AND people who have it worse, that's allowed in the rules of life. Don't worry, I checked.

Brendan
Brendan

@Hanknaples Oh, okay.

I'm serious. A woman being beaten by her husband "pales in comparison" to a woman being murdered by her husband, but can't both be tragic?

Brendan
Brendan

@Hanknaples Um, a Colombian player being murdered is awful. The story about the soccer ref being dismembered from last year? A tragedy.

That doesn't mean Wayne Hunter receiving death threats and fearing for the safety of himself and his family shouldn't be viewed as something awful.
