Hank, you are a fan of the sweet science. This Saturday a friend fights for the world title on HBO 10PM.... Chris Algieri!  Chris is 19-0 but has not fought top caliber competition like his opponent Ruslan Provodnikof.  Ruslan is an animal who has beaten many top fighters and Chris a huge underdog.  What my boy has going for him is his boxing style and awesome conditioning along with an iron will to win beaming with confidence. Ruslan is a power load but one dimensional. Make no mistake, this will be a HUGE task for Chris, I wish him the best. Personally, I would have waited a couple more fights with stiffer competition before tangling with this monster, but there is a risk to that as Levi has pointed out, so it is bombs away baby! It should be a dandy!!!

I just thought of something pertaining to my post on Rex and family values. I wonder if there would have been any issues if it was Stephen Hill instead of Decker? Nah, what am I thinking?

I do like how Rex backed Decker with his family situation. That approach shows the team values the players and their families and will cultivate a tight team.

Rex Ryan glad rookie knows his enemy"   And they certainly know him now!    If I was a 220lb RB or a 260lb TE I would want to hit him with bad intentions after all that smack talk. Pryor is human of flesh and blood and be just as vulnerable to the wood being laid down. I guess I am old school and believe in a quiet confidence and let the play on the field do the talking, but everyone is different, just saying. To me, smack talk does nothing but motivate the opponent.

@jake100 Acting like every player is equal is naive. Status matters.

@jake100 Please give this up. Sheldon Richardson was running his mouth from the jump last year, too. Things turned out alright, I think.

@Hanknaples Yes. Mo Wilkerson should get a little more freedom than Random Camp Fodder Player X, or a fringe starter.

@Brendan @Hanknaples But Decker never took a real snap with the Jets. We dont even know if he will be good in this offense. Why does he deserve the conditional perks already, if you are saying that it should be different for different players based on performance? But again, Decker has not even played a preseason game for the Jets.

@Hanknaples @jake100 Definitely! I am just glad they didn't get swept. The ride has been awesome. They greatly exceeded expectations this season. I am proud of them! A couple of tweaks to the line up and they are again in business next season and who knows, miracles do happen and it ain't over until it's over baby!

Because he's the only one married to a country music superstar, thus he's the only one who NEEDS a conditional perk.

Nothing more than that.

@jake100  Why does any big-ticket FA get the perks? Because they're a big-ticket FA. You are not 5 years old, you know this already. His status as a player, not a Jet, is what matters. And since he's done everything right since coming here, including already getting involved in community outreach/charity work, the team probably feels okay granting their stud WR a night off with his country music-star wife to support her career and present at the movie.

He missed a 7 on 7 practice, not a regular season game against the Pats.

Brendan
Brendan

@jake100 He's a high-profile player that they just gave a large sum of money to in order to come play football in Jetland.

You want to start that hopefully-long-term relationship with a guy by pissing him off?

tsjc68

@Hanknaples @Brendan

Q: So you're saying he can break the  rules??

A: No, he can't.  Decker didn't break a rule, though, he requested to take two days off from a voluntary, non-required team event and the team granted it to him.  That's not "breaking a rule", that's asking for a favor (and being granted that favor).

And, yes, I think that if Stephen Hill also had a wife who was a musician and she had an industry awards show to attend, Rex would have supported Stephen Hill going to that show.

He's probably more "okay" with Decker missing the OTAs than Hill, since Decker isn't fighting for a roster spot and Hill is, but being supportive of a guy's family obligations is most definitely one of Rex's philosophical tent-poles (i.e. "i'm going to go to Clemson to see my son play" or "We should advance money to Cromartie to help him pay his child support and get his family situation straight") so I'm confident that if any of our other players were in that boat, even Geno or Vick, Rex wouldn't have raised a fuss about two days of OTA missed for a family obligation.

Regardless of the player.

@tsjc68 @jake100 I was just speculating would they do the same for Hill if he was in the same sitchyation as Decker, nothing more than food for thought.

@Brendan @jake100

You both are forgettting the most important part of the issue.....these are OTA's...they are completely VOLUNTARY!

Decler doesn't HAVE to show up for any of them..........this is no big deal except for fans' perception.

@Brendan @jake100

Yeah, you can look at it that way. As long as aside from that, it is consistent all the  way around for all the other players. I don't know all that goes in Jets land,  as I am not involved with the team operations and decisions, but I have no reason to believe that there is any partiality to any extreme. I do see favorites though by Idzik and Rex starting players who they like conflicting with the mantra competition that they preach, but that is a slightly different matter than personal issues, but it has a parallel to favoritism.

@jake100 @tsjc68 And I answered your speculation with my speculation that "Yes, they would do the same thing for Hill".

@a57se That's what I was implying when I told Hank that Decker didn't break any rule, but it's probably easier just to point it out the way you did.
