@jake100 Acting like every player is equal is naive. Status matters.

@jake100 Please give this up. Sheldon Richardson was running his mouth from the jump last year, too. Things turned out alright, I think.

@Hanknaples Yes. Mo Wilkerson should get a little more freedom than Random Camp Fodder Player X, or a fringe starter.

@jake100

But Decker never took a real snap with the Jets. We dont even know if he will be good in this offense. Why does he deserve the conditional perks already?

Because he's the only one married to a country music superstar, thus he's the only one who NEEDS a conditional perk.

Nothing more than that.

@jake100  Why does any big-ticket FA get the perks? Because they're a big-ticket FA. You are not 5 years old, you know this already. His status as a player, not a Jet, is what matters. And since he's done everything right since coming here, including already getting involved in community outreach/charity work, the team probably feels okay granting their stud WR a night off with his country music-star wife to support her career and present at the movie.

He missed a 7 on 7 practice, not a regular season game against the Pats.

@jake100 He's a high-profile player that they just gave a large sum of money to in order to come play football in Jetland.

You want to start that hopefully-long-term relationship with a guy by pissing him off?

@Hanknaples @Brendan

Q: So you're saying he can break the  rules??

A: No, he can't.  Decker didn't break a rule, though, he requested to take two days off from a voluntary, non-required team event and the team granted it to him.  That's not "breaking a rule", that's asking for a favor (and being granted that favor).

And, yes, I think that if Stephen Hill also had a wife who was a musician and she had an industry awards show to attend, Rex would have supported Stephen Hill going to that show.

He's probably more "okay" with Decker missing the OTAs than Hill, since Decker isn't fighting for a roster spot and Hill is, but being supportive of a guy's family obligations is most definitely one of Rex's philosophical tent-poles (i.e. "i'm going to go to Clemson to see my son play" or "We should advance money to Cromartie to help him pay his child support and get his family situation straight") so I'm confident that if any of our other players were in that boat, even Geno or Vick, Rex wouldn't have raised a fuss about two days of OTA missed for a family obligation.

Regardless of the player.

@Brendan @jake100

You both are forgettting the most important part of the issue.....these are OTA's...they are completely VOLUNTARY!

Decler doesn't HAVE to show up for any of them..........this is no big deal except for fans' perception.

@jake100 @tsjc68 And I answered your speculation with my speculation that "Yes, they would do the same thing for Hill".

@a57se That's what I was implying when I told Hank that Decker didn't break any rule, but it's probably easier just to point it out the way you did.
