CJ's legs are Much Ado About Not Much... Even if his legs are shot, he STILL makes a faster weapon than anyone else currently on our roster. The odds of getting 4.2 to 4.4 RB in the later rounds of the draft are fairly nil.

So, everyone (I'm lookin' at YOU, Cimini & Mehta!) just cool your jets about the Jets' backfield until camp, when we take a look at what we've got.

My money's on our being just fine for the short term.

Did Dustin Keller sign with a team yet? If not I wish the Jets would offer him a 1 year show me deal like he took with the Dolphins last year. We are thin at TE and this would give us some much needed depth.

What if we traded 49,104 & our 2nd next year (assuming that's enough & moved from 49 to low 20s)?  Grab Dennard @ 18 then Lee/Cooks/Beckham with the other pick?  Would anyone be in favor of this?  Or would that be too much to pay (or assuming that's not enough, would the real price be too steep)?

People claim the draft is a lottery and are now complaining about having too many tickets..

CAN'T win, I swear....

I'd be happy with best wr 1st round, best TE 2nd round best corner 3rd round....then Safety OLB Guard in 4th.

if we trade down a grab a pick perhaps a QB somewhere in there

A couple of recent mock drafts have Eric Ebron falling to us at 18, I wouldn't be mad at all, what y'all think?

Trading up in the first for Evans is exactly why fans can't be GMs.. smh

@Alexander Arceri  Not sure he'd even by an upgrade over Sudfield. That injury was really bad. Pass.

Lets sign Keller, while we are at it lets sign Cro and Holmes.

@Alexander Arceri

12 draft picks.... and Keller destroyed his knee, if you wanna try Finley out after hes cleared, that would be OK.

@Scott Berger-Felder Except for Vernon Davis, Tony Gonzalez, Kellen Winslow, Jr., Kellen Winslow, Sr., Keith Jackson, Jeremy Shockey, Russ Francis, Jerome Barkum, and Mike Ditka.  That's 2 HOF'ers (out of 8), one who is a lock (Gonzo) and one well on his way (Davis).

WW85

@Scott Berger-Felder  There will either be a franchise tag(combo WR TE) or a new contract. They cant let him go.

@boose2  I don't see idzik  as a manueverer.  Last season he cleared the deck to make us solvent.

 Hope he does have a shell game.

@Scott Berger-Felder

The role of TE's continues to evolve, and I also think that any coach or coordinator will use and exploit talent and ability when it exists.

Ebron, ASJ, Amaro and Niklas all represent a decided upgrade in talent over Cumby and, if used properly, could have as much of an impact on improving the O as just about any receiver we can take in this draft.   These four guys are offensive weapons, play-makers, whereas Cumby is just a solid TE who doesn't do anything especially well.   He cannot change games and DC don't have to plan for him.   They do these other guys.

I think MM is a good OC.   Get him one of these TE's, one of the top WR's, and sprinkle-in DAT in the fourth round and MM will swear Idzik is Santa Claus.

High$ocietyJet
High$ocietyJet

@Scott Berger-Felder  I don't think it's that so much Cumberland being "good enough" as Ebron not being much of an upgrade. I think we need an upgrade at TE just don't think Ebron is much of one.

@Marvel  The draft is a lottery. But, like most drafts, the higher the draft pick, the better the chance of getting a player that will have success.

With that having been said, I think both sides of the argument make valid points, and neither approach is wrong.

Hazard2012

@jimjets

You're not going to get a quality edge rusher that far down, and unless you get impact quality there's no need to draft an OLB at all.

If we don't get Dennard or Gilbert in the first round I think the need for an all-around OLB who's a good edge rusher is essential.   Attaochu, Van Noy, Lawrence would all be great additions, IMO, and could take the D to the next level, but they're all gone in 3rd round and more likely the 2nd.

Hoz
Hoz

@jimjets  That's drafting for need? they have to follow there board but I understand where you coming from.

Bytor
Bytor

@jimjets  Word. I kinda settled on this scenario a couple of weeks ago which guarantees it won't happen this way. I'd be drinking happily if we came away with something like:

1. Cooks/ODBJr

2. Niklas/ASJ

3. Watkins or ?

4a. OLB

4b-7. BPA

williamg1
williamg1

@jimjets  I'm fine with just drafting BPA in each round (with some slight weighting for needs). And makes some trades a player that is high on our board becomes available.

I can find u a mock that has, Dennard, it Ebron, or Evans, or Manziel etc falling to us.... There are so many mocks out there.

@Marvel @Alexander Arceri But all indications seem to be that Finley, once cleared, is heading to Seattle, which makes sense from a personnel standpoint. If Seattle does indeed want him I think it would be very, very difficult for the Jets to get him. Remember, we don't grossly overspend anymore. Given the circumstances I like Alexander's thought of bringing Keller back on the cheap.

maynard

@Marvel @Alexander Arceri  Finley is the guy I would love to get, if healthy a tremendous upgrade.   . that would be a FA coup WR, TE,RB and QB getting the best available

Alexander Arceri
Alexander Arceri

@Marvel @Alexander Arceri  In no way do I want a signing of Keller to stop us from Drafting a young TE I'm just saying this would be a good cheap solution to add depth to our roster, and maybe get some more mileage out of that Keller jersey I've got buried in my closet lol

@Hazard2012

Every year the draft hype about players causes people to make the same type of statement you just did. Then after the draft, reality sets back in.

There have been tons of TE's who were SUPPOSED to be great in the NFL and now are nobodies or just average, run of the mill guys.

Guaranteed most, if not all of the ones in this draft fit that same bill.

a57se
a57se

@Hazard2012

You're not going to get a quality edge rusher that far down, and unless you get impact quality there's no need to draft an OLB at all.

I disagree. Draft metrics does a thorough study of the drafts since the late 90's and OLB is one of the positions where later round picks (3rd-5th) can make an impact over time and have a much higher percentage of success then others in this range.

I think the NFL OLB in a 3/4 probably needs time for the body to fully mature and to also learn the proper techniques....

Hoz
Hoz

@Bytor @jimjets  Another player shooting up draft boards is FS Jimmy Ward I like him with our 49th pick if he's there.

Hoz
Hoz

@Marvel @Hoz  I think Dennard will be the pick if he's there, I know we need another receiver but at 49 there will still be quite a few available.

There, fixed that for you.

@Brendan

Lmaooo please stop B... I was on this site when Harvin made his big play during the SB and praised the trade.... BUT that was literally like his only impact  play of the season.  If we trade up and Mike Evans does squat all season and we surrender a #2 #3 AND #18 , THAT'S setting up Idzik to get fired,... bad example

WE need our first 6 picks, simple as that. This trading up stuff is fantasy.

Hazard2012
Hazard2012

@a57se @Hazard2012

You can say that about virtually every position in every draft. I like Cumby and think he's a solid TE, but I don't believe he's one of the top TE's in the league.   Does he change a game the way Graham, Davis, or even Gronk does?   No. Is it a lock that some of the top TE's in this draft will become better?  No, but there's a chance they will, and that's enough for me to try to improve if possible.   Nothing ventured, nothing gained...

Hoz
Hoz

@Marvel @Hoz  Cooks is my favorite receiver in this draft that fits our offense but at the same time who is the better player at there position Dennard or Cooks? I think Idzik will go defense.

Disgruntled Jets Fan
Disgruntled Jets Fan

@Marvel @Hoz  I doubt Cooks is #2 on their board.  It's more like, pick highest-rated player on their board that hasn't been drafted yet.

Marvel
Marvel

@Hoz

 You can literally swap CB and WR and your statement will still be true.

 Personally I feel Cooks is already the pick, and all these visits are "just incase "

AS In, If Gilbert drops, pick him.... other than that, the pick is Cooks..If Cooks  is gone at 18 , player X is the pick.

we . need players.

I've seen you take Bridgewater if he falls, and you think we dont have that many holes.

I'm well aware of camp cuts, and I know we can find value there too, but we need our top 6 picks.

Marvel
Marvel

@Brendan

 Tanny has nothing to do with this, It was a rebuttal to your silly Winters comment.

WE have too many holes to waste picks on moving up 8+ spots. AND all I'm saying is I'd keep our top 6 picks.  You wanna trade 5/6/7 to maybe move up a spot or 2 later on then fine.

Brendan
Brendan

@Marvel I hope you're wrong, but I don't care if you are. They're goign to get good players, I just think it's silly to say NO TRADING ANY PICKS because you're gun-shy from the last GM. They have 12 draft picks, it'd actually be dumb not to use them to target players that aren't going to fall to you if the price isn't excessive.

Marvel
Marvel

@Brendan

 Personally I'd only pick first round o-lineman coupled with Vets, but that's me.

You wanna play that silly game tho?  how bout we trade up and draft the next Sanchez.... I mean Bust..

Buccannon, Paul Richardson, McGill, Baptiste, Moncrief, ASJ, Christian Jones, Loston etc.... I will find you a damn 2015 starter, period.

IT can't be the deepest draft in forever only when it helps your argument..

 no trading our top 6 picks..

Brendan
Brendan

@Marvel I know all about your refusal to ever trade a 3rd rounder, because how can you pass up on a chance to pick the Brian Winters of safeties!

A 3rd rounder isn't a guarantee, and while Evans isn't, he's closer than anything you'll find in that round. 12 picks, and you can't keep them all.

Marvel
Marvel

@Brendan

I'M not trading my 3rd. The name of the game is build through the draft. I can get you a 2015 starting CB, safety, ILB, WR, or OLB in the third.

I'M Not moving up for Evans when #18 ...in my mind is netting us a starting /impact player.

Brendan
Brendan

@Marvel As Marcus said, I'd do it if they can somehow keep their 2nd rounder. I wouldn't trade their first 3 picks to move up, I'm not an insane person.

And that was just one example that I used specifically so I could use the "throw him at you" line.

Marcus Armstrong
Marcus Armstrong

@Marvel @Brendan  I don't think anybody's advocating trading 49... It's a deep draft, prices should be lower than normal. If we could get #11 from the titans for 18 and 80, would you do it?
