Trade up to 11 and take Dennard. #fixed

@a57se  This is a nightmare scenario for the Jets.  Really need one of Ebron, ODB, Cooks, Gilbert, Dennard or Dix to fall to us.

@a57se  Why do you hurt me so badly & have the Ravens taking Cooks one pick before us?  I thought we were getting along these days?

@a57se  Donald is not making it to 18. I'd buy that the rest of them would, but Donald just straight up won't. He's a top 10 talent.

That said, I'm going Teddy B. Qise as a fallback. Or Verrett.

@a57se  If the draft fell like that Anthony Barr will be tough not to take.

@jma020 Or a QB-needy team to trade up for one of the guys left on the board.

@WW85 Prepare for the best, expect the worst.

Giants, Steelers and Ravens could all go WR, I'm expecting them all to take one. I even had a dream recently that Evans made it to 17 and then.....the dream became a nightmare.

@Brendan @a57se  I definitely agree.  If Bridgewater falls to us, we take him.  He's got way too much potential at QB to pass up.  That said, I don't see how he slides that far.

@a57se @Bent  It's not that different.  Still a 3-4 base and the OLBs roles essentially unchanged.

@a57se @Bent  I'm aware but I don't think that matters.  Romeo isn't going to come in and say that those two guys played well, because they did not.  All indications were that the team was planning on looking to upgrade those spots.

@Brendan @a57se  Texans coaches were not happy with their OLB play last year.  They'll probably jettison Brooks Reed first though, because of the contract situation.

I could see them trading Mercilus if they got Clowney though.

@Brendan Yeah. He does read like Vern. Maybe we can convert him back to RB if he sucks at OLB. :)

@WW85 It's essentially the same position, though. Stand-up vs. hand-down aside, they're both raw edge guys who lived off of their incredible athleticism when they could afford to do so.

@a57se That's how I viewed Barr's tape as well. I basically had to fight staying awake during most of his film, then I'd see a couple plays that were legitimately insane, then back to a lot of nothing.

@Brendan Gholston was a pure edge rusher in college I think? He never played OLB at all until the Jets I thought?  At least Barr has shown he can set an edge mostly?

@t__k @a57se  Gilbert scares me because he might be distantly related to Sean Gilbert.

@a57se I wasn't implying you were, for the record. I can just see a lot of awful articles coming from the NYDN and NYP about Barr/Gholston comparisons and then people like Joey picking it up and running with it.

@Brendan If he's actually available at 18, I'd be surprised if Idzik passed

@a57se What's your take on Gilbert?  I watched some tape on him and he looks like a athletic freak, but I really wasn't too impressed.  Seemed to play a lot of off coverage from what I saw and wasn't ver physical at all.  Kinda reminded me of Cro a little.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se So what you're saying is, if the Jets take him he'll be compared to Vernon Gholston by media and fans early and often until he proves he's not Vernon Gholston? Terrific!

Brendan
Brendan

@Marcus Armstrong I was a big fan of his play on tape, and taking injury into account I'm even more impressed. If he somehow fell to the mid-2nd (or the team moved in the draft in one direction or the other and he was sitting there) I'd love to add him.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se Wasn't he playing with a serious shoulder injury from October through the end of the year? And still played well enough to be considered a 1st rounder off his injured play? I'm a fan.

Brendan
Brendan

@Marcus Armstrong I still remember him jumping off the film at me when I was watching Backham's tape against TCU. I really like Verrett as a player, are people thinking he'll go as high as Gilbert now?

jma020

@Brendan @jma020  Right.  I'm also thinking that a team may be willing to trade up for Zack Martin if he's available.  There's a big drop off in O-line talent after him and if a team wants him they aren't going to be able to afford having him drop to miami.  MAybe the Cardinals PAkcers or Seahwaks.

Brendan
Brendan

@Marcus Armstrong That DL would be frightening if they took him. That'd definitely be turning a weakness into a strength.

Vincent Winner

@WW85 @Vincent Winner  He's got elite QB potential, especially on the football IQ side of things.  In my opinion, he becomes a Chad Pennington at worst and a Tom Brady at best (w/o the Ugg boots hopefully).  When you are talking about the most important position on the field, that's hard to pass up even when you have a young, promising QB already on the roster (but I think Geno is less likely to make the franchise QB jump than Teddy, though I'm still optimistic).

SackDance99

@a57se @SackDance99Not really.  Barr could come in as just a pass rusher and be effective.  Whether he'll become a 3-down player is a different story, but he could be a great designated pass rusher and effective from day 1, like Bruce Irvin.  Our GM was there when Irvin was drafted, right?

SackDance99
SackDance99

@a57se @BrendanThey're 3 different prospects.  Ealy is big...Suggs-like with very good pass-rushing and QB-harassing skills (he bats down lots of passes and diagnoses screens very well).  Barr is a puppy.  He has instinctive pass rush skills (he basically evades OLs like an RB evades tacklers...he can execute a spin move that is near-perfect.  You just can't teach that).  But, his overall technique is raw...he has the best upside.  Ford is the best OLB candidate, but I'm not sure he'll be as good a pass rusher as Ealy and Barr will in the NFL.  He is a good edge rusher and a pretty effective bull rusher for his size.  I'm not sure he'll be as effective as a pro.  But, he does project more like a 3-down OLB than the others.

I'd probably choose Barr based upon his upside and natural instincts.

Brendan
Brendan

@SackDance99 To be honest I haven't seen enough of Ford, but I have the feeling he'd be my favorite if I watched his tape. I like Ealy as a player, just don't know if he'd be well-suited for Pace's role.

SackDance99
SackDance99

@Brendan @SackDance99Barr over Ealy and Ford?  Each has his plusses and minuses as a pass rusher/DE/OLB.  Whichever one Rex approves would be fine with me...his hit rate on the front 7 has been pretty amazing.

@Bent Especially for people who refuse to use "lol" like me.

@Brendan @SackDance99  "HaHa, I'd be fine with Barr"

Are you laughing, or saying that HaHa is your first choice and Barr your second choice?  This Clinton-Dix guy is going to cause confusion this offseason!

Brendan
Brendan

@SackDance99 Haha, I'd be fine with Barr.

In that situation I'd probably be most happy with a trade-back, tbh.
