Could it be the Jets management might be using this cap space to secure future rookie contracts about to expire and try to tie up some of our studs to long term deals. I don't understand anything about rookie contracts or when you could extend a first year player. I'm just wondering if that might be part of the reason for the sluggishness of not just signing free agents ,but at least bringing them through for a visit ?

@Bent..

Long tome reader (almost 7 years) ...just started commenting recently (This FAcy)

I've been familiar with this site for quite some time now. Jets' fan living in Ohio & this has been my #1 source for news/updates/comments for an extended period of time. Just wanted to let you know that your insight is appreciated. Your frequent analysis and breakdowns of the Jets' organization are second to none.

I want you to know that your hard work & dedication is appreciated. You, Brian & everyone else here at TJB make it easy to be an educated fan.

Thank you for all that you do...

I dont know how much of it is impatience, and how much of it is just common sense... but I am just growing more and more frustrated that we are not wheeling and dealing right now. I understand, "Idzik has a plan", but what I don't understand is how much money we had to operate and how little we have done with it. Everyone keeps saying "well who would you have like to OVERPAY for!"... has everyone who just signed in FA been overpaid?. I dont think I would be upset right now if there were still some valuable players left in FA... but we have watched players who could have contributed to our team and made our team better slip away one after another. I don't understand how the Patriots with so much less money than us are able to create one of the better cornerback tandems to be seen, and at the same time make some moves in the WR market (bringing back Edleman & looking into Britt right now.) These are moves that we could've made very easily without really destroying our cap. And im not comparing our moves to the Pats, but we could've very easily been a little more active and at least have found a replacement for Cromartie right now. I guess I look at the urgency of replacing a player like Cro, and I just don't see it from us and its confusing me. I have no problems with our signings so far, I like them a lot actually... My problem is the signings we haven't made, like Alteraun Verner (who I dont believe was overpaid), Golden Tate and Josh McCown I think are players we could have right now on top of our signings and still not broken the bank.

Right now I think that DRC is necessary for our secondary to play good next year. Our options right now are DRC and Cro right? Is there anyone else we should feel comfortable with leading our DB's? Its too early to tell whether or not Idzik is playing this off-season right. At the moment if we don't hop on the better talent thats still available, we're relying on future team cuts, trades, and our draft board to field a SOLID team come September. Please don't bash me for saying I think what Idzik is doing is wrong... I just think its a very different approach that I'm not used to and I have a funny feeling about it panning out in our favor.

It is too much to ask any WR to be a #1 without a supporting cast. Pats just need to put Revis on Decker. Other teams just need to double team him. With a supporting cast Decker will be a red zone monster.

@joblowme99 That is actually good news... Now their interest in DRC will be minimal

@Brendan  If Idjit wants nothing to do with him because he can't deal with self-centered egos determined to maximize their bargaining position, then maybe he should consider another career.

@Wayno  As a Mets fan, you cannot compare the two franchises. At all.

Please don't compare the Mets with the Jets. They may sound the same but that's it

@Mike Milea Im not in favor of it either..dont the Jets HAVE to spend like 90% of the cap anyway in accordance with CBA. The cap was designed for competitive balance but also so that owners could not simply sit on piles of money like the Pittsburgh Pirates and Minnesota Twins of the world.

If that small market approach is the "Idzik" way then we have the wrong guy running this team and they wind up sucking, taking steps backwards with young, mistake prone players...then Idzik should be let go, not Rex

@Mike Milea  I have to admit, I  was very optimistic in the beginning, but I am getting very concerned about the Idzik approach.

@Jeff E. Guy Read the article if you're going to speak on this, Jeff.

The agent was banned 8 years for shady practices, then got reinstated and his first move was he renegged on deals already set up with teams for Sanders.

Kenny Britt is a knucklehead at the least. Criminal at the most. PASS

@Bent @Pat d

We all need pieces in place to be successful in team sports, hopefully some of my fellow bloggers will see that and not say it is an excuse very time.

On the other thread, I asked what do you think of Anthony Spencer as a replacement for Pace?

@Jeff E. Guy @tal8 @Brendan  The last I saw Wilk is doing great... Chrebet had amazing career and others. The fact that Idzik does not want to deal with them Revises souhld be considered a plus not a minus...

@tal8 @Jeff E. Guy @Brendan  Don't confuse "self-centered egos" with a-h0les because that trait can manifest in a variety of ways. But if a man does not have an unflinching belief in his own superiority, he doesn't last long in the hyper-competitive world of the NFL

@Jeff E. Guy @tal8 @Brendan  Talk about generelizing........... I think your statement does not hold water and I can name a list of players who are not from Chrebet up until Wilkerson.

@Jeff E. Guy Are you serious, man?

No. He agreed to a deal in principle with KC. Then immediately went to TB and said "hey, look at this deal I just got KC to give me! What can you give me?" before then pulling the same stunt with Denver. If you think there is nothing immoral about that, that's on you, but the guy is about to get his NFLPA certification taken away (again) and you would rather bash a methodical GM so it fits your now-negative narrative.

@Wayno  Personally, I'm glad we're sharing expenses with Giants fans. I'd hate to see what my bills would be like if we had to foot the entire bill....

Britt will probably get himself arrested while in New England because he always gets himself arrested. Look at his arrest record. The guy doesn't learn from mistakes.

No thanks....

Jets are much better off with Decker. Idzik needs to do his job now and bring in some more receivers in this very deep draft. Hoping the Jets sign James Jones also

Britt a monster?

A real monster will be Evans or Lee in round #1

Wish we looked at Kenny Britt. Pats are going to get a monster
