Not crazy about OBJ. Dude didn't even lead his own team (LSU) in receiving stats in 2013. His incredible measurables aren't match with premier collegiate production. I'd rather Cooks @ 18 or draft BPA in first (and if not WR) grab Matthews in the second (if possible).

Analyst, draft gurus and other experts are retarded...I have to hear about guys like Beckham Jr and Evans being these super stars...evans is the 2014 version of that draft bust that went to Arizona two years back...please shut up, all I do is watch football, aside from Sammy Watkins in tough competition, Jordan Mathews will be competing for rookie wide receiver of the year if they had a category like that.

Matthews would be good in the 2nd.

I like Jarvis Landry and Davante Adams in the 2nd also.

But if the Jets can get Lee, Beckham or Cooks at 18, it would be a much better fit.

I know all drafts are big for teams, but the Jets need to knock it out of the park on this one. They have their share of needs with stop gaps like CJ, Colon, Cumberland, Landry,Patterson, Pace, a Harris replacement, and who knows about Winters. Hill also looks like he will be gone soon. The Jets need a real #1 wr and another credible wr on top of that. Luckily, the jets have a lot of picks, and they will need them to rebuild for a young talented team. Unfortunately, after the 2nd round, the odds start go dramatically down on players panning out. By the end of the 4th round the odds are only around 20 or so percent of players ever being starters in the NFL. In other words, Idzik will be tested to nail a few later round diamonds. That is what the Jets draft will be judged on is nailing some later round talent. I cant wait for this draft.

cooks is the guy i would pick.  beckham is likely gone by 18.  Cooks is super fast with great hands.

i would love a TE in round 2.  the Notre Dame kid would be great

round 3 and our 3 picks in round 4 should get us defensive help in the backfield and perhaps a guard.

Our free agency provided some surprises for me and I think we upgraded our offense a lot by adding Vick, Johnson and Decker.

In reading a gabillion mock drafts, with Watkins and Evans gone, 3 names constantly reappear in the first round whenever the Jets pick is a WR: Beckham, Cooks and Lee. The preference of one over the others appears to depend upon personal preference with no conviction that their man is clearly the third best WR in this year's crop. Is anyone here convinced that one is far superior to the other 2 or that one of the 3 is far inferior to the other 2?

The NY Jets embarrassingly bad passing offense was ranked 31st in the NFL in 2013. To say the Jets need to improve the WR depth and add more playmakers who can contribute immediately in the upcoming draft is an understatement.

WR's I like for the Jets in the first 3 rounds are Jarvis Landry, Odell Beckham, Brandin Cooks, Marques Lee, Jordan Matthews, & Allen Robinson. . Any of these guys would be a big help.....I didn't include Evans or Watkins because they are gonna be gone when the Jets pick

Those were the highlights? He can run routes I think. It would be nice to see some of them.

It's got to be BPA. Not a WR or BPA. Their are very good odds that WR will be BPA at 18. I like Cooks and Beckham but I would take Lee if there at 18.

WR rookie of the year will be Watkins or Lee

@Stephen Zuccato  Arizona? Are you talking about Malcolm Floyd? If you are you couldn't be more wrong. the guy had over 1,000 yards receiving last year. Plus, it usually takes WR's a couple of years before they make an impact on their team. It is true that nobody really knows who will be the best WR in this draft but that's what's so exciting about the whole thing...

I hope the Jets take the best WR available with the 18th pick and use their 2nd round pick on the best CB available (or TE). McGill is an interesting pick in round 2. He's a 6 foot 3 inch cornerback with ball skills

Pat d
Pat d

What you are saying is true but this years draft is much deeper than most. I have heard some say some mid rounders from last year wouldn't even be drafted this year.

Pat d

I doubt if Beckham will be gone by 18. Watkins, Evans and Lee could all be gone in my opinion.

At 18 I like Lee, Beckham or Cooks.

I think Cooks could be had in the 20s.

Nobody knows if Lee is healthy and the same guy as in 2012.....If he is then Lee would be a great pick.

Beckham makes so much sense because he isn't undersized and he also can contribute on BOTH special teams as a return threat and on offense as a productive WR who will get better over time.

Cooks is intriguing but there are questions about his ability to play outside and the Jets already have Kerley in the slot.......Cooks though is an upgrade over Kerley

Pat d
Pat d

Lee if healthy is the better of the 3.

Yes. But you're gonna get different answers from everyone.

@tish  I like all 3 but gun to my head right now I think I'd pick ODBJr. Those hands make the football look like a toy. The punt return ability is just icing. An underrated part of this is Bytor's sanity when the other team punts. Ford can handle the kick offs and touchbacks.

@jma020 I agree but a "jma" handle makes me wonder how objective you are!

I really thought considering how good he was against SEC defenses that his better than expected measurable would have had him a more likely 1st rounder.  I am hoping that he is available for us in round 2.

@bradysucks

To say you hope the Jets pick Jarvis Landry, Odell Beckham, Brandin Cooks, Marques Lee, Jordan Matthews, & Allen Robinson....one or more of these....is.....well......an understatement.  Here's my sleeper, which seems to be a snoozer since no one is talking this guy up....Norwood from Alabama.

I like the QB.  Austyn Carta Samuels. He looks like the real deal.

Pat d
Pat d

I agree. Lee, Beckham or Cooks are a perfect fit for the Jets.

Somebody could easily pick Beckham in the top 10. This would not surprise me.

Beckham has great hands as a WR and he's fast and dangerous in open space. Whoever drafts Beckham gets a dangerous return man on special teams and also gets a guy who can immediately step in as  the number 2 WR on the team and contribute.....It is isn't unreasonable to think that Beckham could be a number 1 WR in time. He has a skill set similar to Michael Crabtree...

Pat d
Pat d

The teams will know if Lee is healthy. I see no reason that Lee can't come back.

I see no reason that Lee, Beckham or Cooks couldn't play opposite Decker. In fact all 3 are a good fit.

Beckham is only 1 inch taller than Cooks.

@yankspride @bradysucksI'm still a Beckham/Cooks and an Ebron/Amaro guy... I can't seem to get over Lee's knee injury and Robinson's being too much of a Stephen Hill type of project.

I'm completely on board with the strength of both of your concerns, receivers AND O line still need to be ramped up this off season... big time!

@bob @Steven WindelerI really like Matthews, but I do not think he does a great job of creating separation, so I think it is a stretch for him to go in round 1, especially considering the depth at the position.  A run at the position could certainly change that, but I would bet against him coming off the board in the 1st, or for him being around for the Jets in the 2nd round.

Now to completely discredit what I just said... Too many people these days watch a few youtube clips of players and act like they have done extensive tape study.  I'm not saying this about anything either of you said, just commenting in general, so don't take offense.

Pat d
Pat d

Jarvis Landry would be a steal in round 3. I think he will go in the 2nd. You are right there will be good WRs there in the 3rd round .

bradysucks
bradysucks

@Pat d

The Jets can still get a very good TE in round 4. They can address CB in round 2 and get a very good player.

Because the Jets offense was ranked 31st in passing it makes so much sense to address WR in rounds 1 and 3. This would be really smart. This is the best draft for WR in years.....and the Jets may even have a shot at Jarvis Landry in round 3 where Landry is a steal

Pat d
Pat d

I think it is unlikely Beckham goes in the top 10. It is more likely 3 OTs, 2 or 3 QBs, 3 or 4 DE/OLBs, and 1 CB go top 10 before 3 WRs.

Pat d
Pat d

Robinson and Hill aren't similar at all.

marc55
marc55

@bradysucks @juunitBenjamin has ball skills, Hill didn't/does not, so they are different types of project players, with Benjamin being, in my opinion, the safer project.  I don't know anything about the guy's character, but he's a freak athlete, and I would not mind the team taking him.

juunit
juunit

Benjamin probably wouldn't be much of a special teamer but he'd definitely be a deep threat on the outside.

bradysucks
bradysucks

@juunit

Picking Benjamin makes no sense to me......

Jets really should pick another receiver with speed who can play on the outside and help on special teams......which is why Beckham makes a ton of sense.....Cooks also makes good sense if the Jets can use him on the outside as well as the slot

juunit
juunit

Ah, yeah that makes a lot more sense. I'd still say Benjamin > Hill but I definitely understand not being interested in Benjamin.

kniff

@Brendan @kniffThe WR they were referring to, and I SHOULD have stated this about was Kevin Benjamin... a quick check to the link showed they were not referring to Robinson...

I was mistaken.. all apologies!

Brendan
Brendan

@kniff Juunit's point is that he's not a project, at all.

kniff
kniff

@juunit @kniff@yankspride@bradysucksThere were some recent mock Jets drafts (including one by Basset) that included a very intersesting "definitely do not draft" section...

Robinson came up at least three times among the participants, and for the reason above, going on to say that the Jets can't afford another WR project right now.
