Former Jets quarterback Erik Ainge was arrested early Sunday morning for driving under the influence of alcohol in Tennessee. The 27-year-old, who retired from the NFL in 2010 due to shoulder injuries, failed field sobriety tests administered by a Knoxville police officer.
Ainge has a history of struggles with alcohol and drugs, and has openly discussed his addictions in the past.
“I’m a drug addict,” the former fifth-round draft pick told the Associated Press in 2011.
Before being drafted by the Jets in 2008, Ainge played four seasons of college football at the University of Tennessee, where started in 37 games and was the MVP of the Outback Bowl during his senior season.
