Favre’s jersey to be retired in Green Bay

Almost six years to the day since Brett Favre was traded to the New York Jets, his No. 4 jersey will be retired for the Green Bay Packers and he will be inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame (SB Nation, August 4).

Favre played 16 of his 20 NFL seasons with Green Bay before a messy trade to the Jets – but both sides have apparently buried the hatchet. The Packers and Favre are set to announce the news Monday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. ET as he becomes the sixth player to have his jersey retired by Green Bay.

The quarterback isn’t eligible for the NFL Hall of Fame until 2016.

" Will they invite/include Jenn Sterger in the ceremony? Pictures of his junk on the jumbotron? Duping his team and wife about a Vicodin addiction for years" - Pack Fan On Farve's "announcement"

BTW, those "announcing" (which is an independent business from the team) are soo proud they're not even mentioning WHAT is it that they will be announcing about this dirt bag !! LMFAO

I wouldn't retire his jersey just yet.  I think Favre still has five or six productive seasons left in him.

I still think that the favre signing was one of the highlights of the tanny era. We were 8-3, atop the division when he got hurt (or at least when it started showing). The fact that a hurt favre was better than a healthy clemens speaks volumes about kellen, or at least what the coaches thought of him.

I will always have a soft spot for chad (especially mach 1 before the shoulder injury) but he was never gonna get us farther than 1 & done in the playoffs (also #hankbait).

Favre might be a d!ckhead with a truckload of baggage and ulterior motives, but signing him then was a sound move that almost worked out, at least for that season.

Like I said at the time in 2008:  I like Chad Pennington, but I will trade the rest of Chad Pennington's 32-year old, twice-surgically-repaired-throwing-shoulder career for one year of Brett Favre going for it every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

After the end of the 2007 season, both Brett Favre and Chad Pennington played 3 more NFL seasons before retiring.

Favre played in 45 games and threw 66 touchdown passes.  Penny played in just 20 games in those three years and threw 20 touchdown passes.

Gambling on a year (or maybe more) of Favre >>>>>>> continuing to see what Penny might have left in the tank

@tsjc68 @Bent Oh well, at least he didn't imply that Bryan Thomas' domestic abuse was because he was angry about Rex screwing him over by not giving Damon Harrison any playing time in 2012.

Oh, my bad, that was Fonzie, not Hank.

@Bent @tsjc68

I said the other day that I wanted to see the 53 man roster that Hank/Fonzie would put together if he/they was/were placed in charge of an NFL team.  And that that team would be awful.

But with Bryan Thomas and probably Ray Rice on it, at least that team would be good at spousal abuse.
