Jacoby Ford contract details

New Jets wide receiver Jacoby Ford’s one year contract with the Jets is worth a reported $740,000 for the 2014 season. (Cimini, April 3).  The former Oakland Raider also received a $65,000 signing bonus.

The Jets had interest in Ford for a few weeks now and brought him in this week to compete for kick return duties.

Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.com

Ford was drafted by the Raiders after posting a 4.29 40 time during the 2010 NFL Draft.  Ford has been an effective kick returner, but injury and lack of contributions elsewhere saw his role limited under Dennis Allen in 2013.

Jet GM John Idzik has set up an epic battle at the kick returner spot, but the team still has a major opening at the top of the depth chart at wide receiver.  The team flirted with the notion of pursuing the now newly minted Redskin receiver DeSean Jackson, but ended up not entering the fray for Jackson’s services.

As a result of the Jets rounding out the back of the roster with Ford and their fleeting interest in Jackson, look for the Jets to make additions to the roster at the receiver position early in the 2014 NFL Draft.  This year’s class is considered to be one of the most receiver rich in many years.

There is atleast one thing the jets nation will not tolerate, and that's coming on a Jets blog and discussing the freakin Knicks! You've got to be kidding me... now that's just disrespectful and unacceptable. I'll even accept a patriot troll once in awhile, but a Knicks comment - it stops 2day!

I'm interested in getting a singing bonus.

The money is meaningless as long as they continue to look for 1 or 2 WR whose only attribute is speed

Cimini says it's 740K including a 65K signing bonus but 730K is the minimum salary so the SB will be on top of that and the actual value 805K.

That's only $10,000 over the minimum.

The reason they've done that is because that will enable him to re-sign before the FA signing period next year, whereas if they paid him the minimum, although that would give them a slight cap reduction, they can't by rule extend him until the new league year begins.

@rstysanchz  Hopefully he'll be back to learning from Ed Reed during the season.

@lucas umm, ok.

you don't actually get to make such rules.  it's not like the knicks are even a major topic on here, so not sure what your issue is.

@twin  Will be an interesting 1st round if the Knicks make the playoffs. Both the Pacers & Heat look a bit sleepy right now. Then again, they may wake up in May.

@bob Sabrett's were my favorite growing up. The best part of a Mets game at Shea, imo (I grew up with a lot of 90's era Mets :/ )

@Brendan @twin  All you need to do is sweeten the pot with some high picks or promising young players and then...ah, crap.
