Receiver Jeremy Kerley makes a leaping grab among three defenders to snag a Geno Smith touchdown pass in the Jets’ win over the Raiders last week.

Who: New York Jets @ Carolina Panthers
When: 4:05 p.m. EST
Where: Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, NC
Media: TV – CBS, DirecTV – 712, Radio – ESPN N.Y. 98.7 FM, Sirius – 117, Sirius XM – XM 232, Internet AudioAudio Pass.
Their Previous Meeting: The last time these two teams met, was in the preseason back in 2010. Mark Sanchez and Matt Moore started the contest for their respective teams and from the start it was an absolute mess with Moore getting picked off by Jim Leonhard on Carolina’s first drive. The Jets capitalized with Nick Folk hitting a 43 yarder. After stalling on their second drive, the Jets caught a break when Armanti Edwards fumbled a punt return that David Clowney recovered for New York at Carolina’s 12. The Panthers defense clamped down and forced the Jets to settle for another Folk field goal to put them ahead 6-0. Both teams punted back and forth to end the first half. The Jets got off to an auspicious start in the third when Joe McKnight fumbled on the second play which led to a John Kasay 42 yarder to narrow New York’s lead. There was some more back and forth before the Jets recovered another fumbled punt return by the Panthers to set up the Kellen Clemens-led Jets in the fourth. Once again, the Panthers defense held firm and the Jets settled for the final field goal of the night to give them a 9-3 victory over Carolina. Want to have some fun with numbers? Vernon Gholston led the team in tackles with five, including two for a loss, while Jeff Cumberland and Laveranues Coles led the team in reception yards at 19 and 12 respectively.

Jets offseason needs = Pretty much every offensive position, competent coach who can run the offense and defense and a time machine so I could tell Idzik not to draft milliner.

It is very apparent that other than Geno Smith and maybe Kerley, that the Jets have very little talent on offense. The OLine is porous, winters is terrible, the jets have maybe one receiver in Kerley, no TEs, and no RBs. And because of this Rex should be fired.

The defense has more talent, but the playing of Reed over Allen was about the stupidest move Rex has ever made, no playing Sanchez over Tebow was probably more stupid.

Bring on Cower or Gruden!

can we please fire Ryan and move on from this debacle!.. he isn't totally at fault but he is ultimately at fault

@disgruntle MM is very competent. He's been competent his entire career. There is very little talent on offense with a very green QB & huge weak link on OL.

@disgruntle He averages 10 more yards rushing a game than Ivory. For what he'll probably be looking for (assuming he's cut)? No thanks.

Absolutely NOT!!!

@disgruntle he would end up more messed up than Sanchez and Geno with this offense.

@disgruntle Um, maybe not!  Geno seems to be better, still making mistakes mind you but the improvement is noticeable.  I'd rather grab a QB mid-round (3rd, say) and concentrate on other areas of need.

@disgruntle

I've seen enough improvement out of the quarterback that I'm more concerned with other positions, namely X, Y and TE.

@theeditor Rex dressed Tebow with broken ribs over McElroy who was healthy remember?

@theeditor Geno is a talent?

Doesn't he have like 24 turnovers? He's garbage.

@theeditor

So... Geno Smith is talented, the coach should be fired for the GM not bringing in enough talent, Tebow is good and the only possible coaches we can hire are retreads?

Got it.

It's easy to be a good coach when you have Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, and Peyton Manning,,,,,,,What does Rex Ryan have to work with?...He has had the buttfumble bozo and the Genormously bad Geno..

@Samuelito Encarnacion Time to put an adult in charge.  Someone who can control his team.  Someone to hold them accountable.  He wants to be their buddy.  That never works.

@Samuelito Encarnacion the team has responded enough times during the season, Rex needs more talent on the offensive side of the ball to be judged fairly.

Lightning and thunder combo will do us good. Dude has rushed for 1k for the last 5 years.

@DarrolRayFanClub@theeditor Cowher helped develop more pro bowlers than Rex has coached, and the players that Tomlin won a SB with where develop by Cowher, if Kordell and O'Donnell hadn't turned into pumpkins in big games, Cowher would have 3 rings at least. and you can add that if Big Ben hadn't been riding a motorcycle and gotten into an accident where he was almost killed the year after winning the SB, Cowher should have repeated.

marcus81

@BILLY@theeditor any QB would turn into a pumkin with this offense, maybe an Elite QB would be slightly above .500 with this offense.

@marcus81 @Samuelito Encarnacion responded how?!? sure they upset a few teams when coming off a loss, but that was literally half a season ago. i'm not saying rex should be fired, but to say the team as "responded"?

you (and i) have no clue how this team has responded to rex...

@ww85 @disgruntle Honestly, he did flop in Seattle...he was pretty terrible in preseason.

@disgruntle @ww85 He didnt flop in Seattle. He got beat out by a phenomenal QB. Oakland believed in an athletic freak, which looks like a mistake.

@ww85 he flopped in oakland and in Seattle , I think if we don't get johnny football lets give geno another year ... he is a rookie after all

@ww85 @disgruntle against the worst defense in football. I think my dad can throw for 5 touchdowns against them and he's 71

@disgruntle I'm all for upgrading WR's, but with Goodson coming back, Powell and Ivory...I think RB is set.

@theeditor If you're going to blame the talent on the roster, you can't blame Rex. He doesn't assemble the roster.

@BILLY@marcus81@theeditor they drop the ball anyways, Geno is gonna need mental therapy after the season.

@DarrolRayFanClub @Jeff E. Guy @Samuelito Encarnacion talent is also brought out in players...Rex is overrated so much I'm sick!!.. genius my butt!!!.. when has a play he called worked??.. he relies on aged vets,scared to make offensive plays,no accountability,but worst if all is his delusion that all his players are ALLPROS at their positions!!.. just end his time with is and move on!!!!!.. we lost many games by wide margins with him so we can lose more without him...he can keep his stats after a loss n shovel it!.. I'm drunk n done
