Rookie offensive lineman Dalton Freeman returned to the field yesterday, according to Michael Fensom of the Star Ledger. Freeman was carted off the field on August 2nd and diagnosed with a high ankle sprain.
He spent most of yesterday working with trainers and on the exercise bikes, but was in pads with no boot on his ankle.
Bent, TheJetsBlog.comFreeman is a guy about whom Rex Ryan has had plenty of good things to say throughout the offseason program and looked to be in the mix for a backup center role until he got hurt.
Unless they decide to look outside the organization, the Jets have two other options for the backup center role following the release of veteran Stephen Peterman earlier this week: Last year’s backup, Caleb Schlauderaff or recent signee Erik Cook, who was the second-team center in the Jags game.
As we saw with Brian Winters, returning from an ankle injury having missed valuable preparation time is never easy for a young lineman. It will therefore be interesting to see if he has time to stake a claim for a roster spot between now and Friday, when the team will start making their final cuts.
