Injury Update: Mauga Out For The Season

More bad news, courtesy of Manish Mehta (via twitter):

LB Josh mauga is out for year with torn pec, per source

This will undoubtedly mean an increased role for rookie Demario Davis, who had seen his role slowly increasing over the past few weeks anyway. With Bart Scott currently dealing with a toe/foot injury, could Nick Bellore start seeing some defensive reps too?

Mauga is a restricted free agent at the end of the year, but it seems unlikely the Jets would tender him, since I doubt any other team would offer him more than a minimum salary.

In other injury news, Rex Ryan said today that he thinks Nick Mangold will play on Sunday. There is no news on Clyde Gates’ shoulder injury yet.

So Eli will be ready to go Week 1.

Which means playing him, and him getting hurt in a meaningless Week 17 game is no longer considered to be one of the biggest boneheaded moves that Jerry Reese has made as GM of the Giants.

Despite Eli and Tom Coughlin actually having final say on who plays and who doesn't.

Which means it's one less log that Skookaloop will have to toss in the "Dump Reese" fire he's been fanning for the past 2 years.

Somehow, I doubt this will stop him.
