Jets add to the list of veterans trying out at rookie mini-camp

As we noted in a post on Wednesday, the Jets rookie mini-camp starts today and while most of the attention will be on the 12 players the Jets drafted, all of whom should be in attendance, there’s also an opportunity for 20-30 unsigned players to earn an NFL contract.

As noted in the previous post, former Ravens safety and 2012 fourth round pick headlines the list of veteran players who will be attending. However, more names have been leaking out over the last couple of days, including a couple more drafted players. More details and an updated list after the jump:

Rumored veteran tryouts attending Jets rookie mini-camp from Friday to Sunday

Kyle Stelter LS Wisconsin-River Falls
Travis Chappelear DT Northwest Missouri State
Christian Thompson S South Carolina State
Davin Morris OT Howard
D J Harper RB Boise State
Mike Willie WR Arizona State
BJ Coleman QB Chattanooga
Ahmad Black S Florida
Ray Dominguez G/T Arkansas
Nick Clancy ILB Boston College

Some notes:

Stelter comes from humble beginnings and owns a company to provide guidance to long snappers trying to make it at the pro level. His story is here Chappelear is a player the Jets were all over during the pre-draft process last year, with Rex Ryan reportedly high on him. He was active for one preseason game with the Cowboys last year, but did not play … Thompson, as noted in our previous article, is a former fourth round pick who has played on special teams in seven regular season games and has 14 tackles and a forced fumble in six preseason games … Morris is 6-6 and 310 pounds but was not picked up by a team after going undrafted last year … Harper had a good college career at Boise State and saw preseason action with the 49ers last year. He had four touches, no yards and a fumble … Willie flashed with the Chargers in the last two preseason campaigns, catching nine passes for 125 yards and three touchdowns in six games. Here is one of those touchdowns … Coleman was a 7th round pick for the Packers in 2012 who has completed 19-of-45 passes for this touchdown and two interceptions in six preseason appearances. He worked out with the Jets in November … Black is the biggest name in this group – a former 5th round pick, he was released in October following two and a half years with the Bucs where he started three games and recorded 53 tackles, five passes defensed, two interceptions and a forced fumble. He does have some baggage though … Dominguez was picked up by the Cowboys last year and played in one game at right guard in preseason, surrendering one sack and one pressure in 26 snaps … Finally, Clancy was with the Falcons in preseason, playing 23 snaps over three games and recording three tackles per PFF

I wonder if Clancy knows Brandon Dixon.

Clancy went to high school in Joliet, Illinois and Dixon went to Junior College there.

Another NW Missouri guy....Go Bearcats, the pride of Maryville!!

Thanks for the "You May Like" clutter. (sarcasm font)
