Jets expected to cut Calvin Pace, Bart Scott
As soon as the waiver period opens in February, the Jets will clear $30.7 million off their salary cap, Rich Cimini of ESPN New York reports. They will release linebackers Calvin Pace ($8.56 million savings) and Bart Scott ($7.15 million), offensive tackle Jason Smith ($12 million) and safety Eric Smith ($3 million). Those moves will result in only $4.5 million in dead money.
Well really no surprises here. The Jets need to get younger and more athletic at the linebacker position. There’s still a possibility that the Jets will re-sign Scott to a cheaper contract. Cutting Jason Smith is a no brainer and cutting the fan favorite Eric Smith (sarcasm) is a move that needs to be made as well. Once Tom Gamble takes over he’ll have his work cut out for him.
