NFL: New York Jets at Buffalo Bills

Jets take Colon off PUP

The Jets announced on Sunday that they have taken starting right guard Willie Colon (knee) off the PUP list and will allow him to practice for the first time later Sunday.

Colon had arthroscopic knee surgery in late May and missed the first three days of practices as he was unable to play.

Colon re-signed with the Jets in March to a 1-year $2 million deal. He started all 16 games last year.

I thought being on PUP was more of a long term situation in just  about every case.  When i recently read Colon was on PUP, I truly thought it was not a good sign.

I stand corrected.

I stand thrilled.

@Lloyd Jay Reife There's the preseason PUP (which Colon was on, that has no minimum timetable and allows teams to activate guys at any time - while still counting for a roster spot) and the regular season PUP (which has a minimum 6-week window, after which a team has a 5-week window to let a guy start practicing). You probably were just thinking of it as the regular season PUP.

@Brendan @Lloyd Jay Reife And the regular season PUP is not an option unless you've been on preseason PUP all the way through camp.  That's why anyone with even the slightest injury at the outset gets on that list, so the option is open if they have a setback before they return to practice.
