Jets will return to Cortland for training camp

The Jets will return to Cortland for training camp in 2014, the team announced on Wednesday.

“The school and the community have joined together to continually provide a terrific backdrop for our team to come together at a critical stage of our season.” General Manager John Idzik said in a statement. “I am pleased that we are returning to Cortland for training camp again this summer.”

The team will practice at SUNY Cortland, which marks the fifth time in the last six years that the Jets will hold their training camp on the school’s campus in central New York.

“I love the fact that we are going back to Cortland,” Head Coach Rex Ryan said in a release. “Everyone knows how I feel about going away. I think it is a big part of building our team camaraderie.  The community, the school and the people of Cortland have been outstanding and we are all excited to be going back this summer.”

The 2014 Jets training camp will be presented by Atlantic Health, SAP/EMC, JetBlue, MetLife, SNY and Toyota.

The remaining six games after the Bye week looks pretty much advantage Jets.

Then again.................things must fall into place.

If the leaked schedule is accurate ( https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Bl8T0tPCUAADIV_.jpg ) then we can observe:

No AFC East games until week 7

No bye until week 11

No stretches of three home or road games in a row

Two MNF games and one Thursday night game

Not too bad in terms of cold weather games

Oh and F the NFL if they're really sending us to NE on the Thursday after the Broncos game, conveniently after Browner's suspension is over.

I've seen OAK, GB, CHI, DET reported as 1st four opponents for #NYJ. Seems odd. Would be three straight NFC North gms and no AFC East gms.

You only have to go back as far as 2011 for the last time the Jets didn't have an AFC East game in their first four.

And, hey, that's arguably an advantage to get those cold weather specialists before it gets cold!

Can a good to great defensive line make a subpar secondary look good?

Rumor has it that the Bears are traveling to met life in week 3  for a Monday night game with the Jets!

Wow, it looks like the Jets play most of the NFC North weeks 2-4.

Week 2: @ Packers

Week 3: vs Bears - MNF

Week 4: vs Lions

Edit- Week 1: vs Raiders

Basically each team knows which teams they play beside their own conference. It's the dates, the bye, the travel the week after a Monday night game and the subtleties that can be deal breakers.

@Bent  While the GB game won't be cold, the MINN game will be played outdoors in the middle of December.

@Bent

That'd be a rough start after the Raiders game. Raiders might even be tough-ish if they get a QB with all the guys they've added.

Might be a good idea to let Vick start the season.

@jake100  There's a full leak I posted below joey.  Don't know if it's genuine though.

@Bent  Our secondary is looking worse with every post. How many franchise QB's are we facing this year?

rkymtnjet
rkymtnjet

@Bent  Three straight NFC north games seems odder than no AFCE games.

UncleJoesJetFarm

@Tequila Joe  Depends on the offense that they are facing. If it is an offense that spreads it out with those quick torture 3 step drops no unless you have fast LBS and covering safetys. If the offense relies on the long pass, then yes, the dline will get to them.

@jake100  You know you can edit your comments so you can stop spamming. I posted Weeks 1-4 already. Sheesh.

@juunit @Bent  It's legit.  Full schedule above...although I can't find it on the site so they may have accidentally leaked prematurely.

Rogers, Cutler, Stafford, rivers, manning, Brady. That is one hell of a stretch weeks 2-7.

Bent

@Tequila Joe @Bent  Depends who you define as a franchise QB.

We face Brady x 2, Rodgers, PManning.

Do you consider any of these elite? : Rivers, Ben, Stafford Cutler...

Bent

@rkymtnjet @Bent  So, if correct, they open with three of four at home.  Good chance for a fast start, but a lot of pressure to win on the road if they don't start fast.

Team source has confirmed the first two to me, FWIW.

@rkymtnjet @Bent  Unbelievable that we don't get the Pats until AFTER Browner's suspension ends.

Or not though.

@jake100 @Tequila Joe  In other words, teams prepare for good defensive lines with a game plan that rely's on getting the ball out quick. True?

UncleJoesJetFarm

@rkymtnjet @jake100  OK, you get the credit, lol If the Jets get the Raiders week one I will be in my glory! Nothing like a good start, so be chilley willie!

@jake100 @Bent  Do you think the Jets could have been better than 8-8 last year if the games were in a different order?

Maybe if the eight games they won were the first eight games then the team would have been more motivated to win at least one of their last eight!

UncleJoesJetFarm
UncleJoesJetFarm

@Bent @jake100  I think it does to some degree. but overall in theory it should not, but there is so much to consider. We all know football is a game of inches and scheduling can make a difference.

Bent

@jake100 @Bent  What's the big deal?  We know who we're playing.  Does it really make any difference in which order?

Tequila Joe

@rkymtnjet  It's crazy!!! Losing out on DRC is definitely going to comeback and haunt us. We ranked 22nd in pass defense last year and the only good QB's we faced were Brady twice, Matt Ryan (i'm hesitant to include him because the Falcons were horrible last year, but he's still good), Big Ben, Cam Newton and Drew Brees.

Tequila Joe
Tequila Joe

@Bent @Tequila Joe  Yes, I consider all them franchise QB's. You don't have to be Elite to be a franchise QB. Just ask Eli Manning.

@rkymtnjet  Sorry, missed that bud.  Good job of being on top of things.

@Tequila Joe @jake100  With all that said, I think we can firmly agree that the Jets better have a plan to fix this secondary. This upcoming schedule is riddled with franchise QB's. Manning, Brady twice, Rodgers, Stafford and Cutler to name a few.
