Detroit Lions outside linebacker Travis Lewis was fined $15,750 today by the NFL for his horse collar tackle against the Jets on August 9th. Lewis used the illegal move to bring down Jets running back John Griffin in the third quarter. This caused Griffin, who was headed out of bounds, to land awkwardly and break his leg.
Unfortunately, today’s announcement does nothing to undo the damage. With Mike Goodson amiss and Joe McKnight ailing, Griffin, who was having a solid camp, figured to see an increase in snaps and was making a case to make the active roster. Instead, he’ll remain on injured reserve for the year as he rehabilitates.
