Plenty of Questions Remain

After terminating Mike Tannenbaum from the organization, a meeting was held this afternoon for the assistant coaches. Apparently, it yielded little information about their futures and they may be in the dark until a new general manager is found.

Assistant coaches for the New York Jets believe they are “in limbo” until the Jets hire a new general manager.

A team source who was in a meeting held by coach Rex Ryan on Monday shared that the staff is expected to take the week off and return next Monday. That could be the target date for a GM hire.

This isn’t exactly welcome news for those who are looking for a quick resolution about the futures of everyone not named Rex Ryan or Mike Tannenbaum but ultimately, it’s the right decision. The Jets have some very serious questions to answer and Woody Johnson seems set on taking a slow and methodical approach to find the proper solution. They need to find a general manager first and then allow him to determine who currently under contract fits their philosophy moving forward instead of accidentally firing someone that they could have (or should have) kept. The process won’t be dragged out but, it will be thorough and should take as long as they need. I’d much rather see the Jets take their time than jump head first into a deal they may later regret.
