Quote: Knockaround guy

“I look to intimidate guys right away, coming down here and just smacking people and letting them know there’s no fear in me.  I play fearless. I’m going to fly around for the ball. And I look to be an enforcer right away.”

– Jets 2014 first round selection, Lousiville safety Calvin Pryor

Everybody talking about injury has me thinking he's a lot like Bob Sanders.

Great player, if he can actually stay on the field.

"Pryor is a good prospect, a solid value at 18, but was he the best choice for the Jets? They should've taken Darqueze Dennard."

--Cimini

I wouldn't expect anything different from him.

As I said, i like the player and the pick.  I just hope his body holds up given his recklessness. The Jets still need a WR that can be a game changer added before the season starts.

I get that Pryor is tough & plays hard, which we've dearly needed. But I hope Ed Reed is in minis & tcamp to help him learn how to play smart. From the extended clips I've seen, he makes a lot of bad reads & ends up in the wrong place too much of the time. I'd love to see Ed help him learn to make better reads & open himself to better, quicker, more accurate reactions.

What I like about this pick, is that the GM and Head Coach seem to be on the same page.

If clowney didn't come out this year I would say we have another droy

Walter Football(who nailed the Pryor pick) has us picking ASJ in rd 2. There are a ton of guys still available, but I'd be happy with ASJ & it would fit in with Idzik's philosophy.  Here's their rd  & it's interesting: http://walterfootball.com/draft2014redraft_2.php

He may have intimidated the college boys, but he's about to go to the woodshed.

John Conner at Safety?

Surprise me!  I am.  The more I think about it, the more I like this pick.  Secondary sucked and now there is an ENFORCER back there to scare every receiver in the NFL who tries to tiptoe through the Jets tulips.  "Can't Wait!" for what's next.  Surprise me MORE!

This is a smart pick..the pats recievers drop balls when no one hits them..gronk is in full on mr glass mode...mike wallace is the dolphons top guy...in this division a hard hitting secondary makes a ton of sense.

Plus I'm calling it.

Jets are going to move up for Marquis Lee.

If we continue to follow the Seattle script, look for TE/OL in rd 2.  WR in Rd 3

@williamg1  He already had "[X] is a good prospect, a solid value at 18, but was he the best choice for the Jets? They should've taken [Y]." prepared.

@helloboy  I also hope the recklessness doesn't interfere with playing smart.  Good OCs can take advantage of overanxious players looking to make a play.

@helloboy  The Jets need pass catchers. A WR and TE. I hope we get one this round.

@metjetnet You know the Jets have a DB's coach, thats his job

@Pat d  I don't think Rex is ever going to object to using a 1st pick on a defensive player. But the kid certainly has the mentality that Rex loves.

@WW85  Yeah I'd be happy with ASJ, or even Nicklas. Then look for a chance to manoeuvre to get us two picks in the 3rd for a WR and a LB

@a57se

Ha!  I was thinking that too.  Another no-neck.  He looks like the failed Kyle Wilson - John Conner mating experiment.

@boozer To be honest, I bet we stay where we are or trade back with our next pick. There's going to be solid value at receiver or tight-end when we pick no matter what

@WW85  I posted this in another thread but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't take a WR today. An all around studly TE helps this offense immediately considering the weapons we already have. Also wouldn't be surprised with a CB or LB pick today as well. Start looking at 4th round WR's.

@WW85  not about following Seattle but it would be smart.

@Disgruntled Jets Fan @helloboy  I wanted Cooks, no doubt. But a safety who can blitz, I'm willing to accept that they really do know best. :) However, as a prediction, I see the Giants screwing us again with ASJ. It may be time to mobilize those extra picks, and try to sneak back up a bit.

metjetnet

@jaym @metjetnet True. But they weren't doing much for Dee last year. then, boom, Ed shows up, and Dee becomes a man. Co-incidence? Maybe... Maybe not.

Plus, all the king's coaches haven't done all that much yet to turn Kyle Wilson into a pro CB, have they?

Monty
Monty

@ukjetsfan @WW85  well there are a lot of good wideouts or jace amaro still on the board.. I would love for them to nab one of those..I feel like you can get a blocking tight end later

Pete 57
Pete 57

Not really. That's why they picked up Ed Reed. As for the CBs, Milliner figured it out, and Cro is gone. Jets will pick a CB tomorrow and pickup a camp cut. They will be fine. Like Walls as well and hope we resign Berry.

@tobyshasta @boozer  trade back?  we have 11 more picks.  we should try to trade up at every opportunity we can.

@Brendan @boozer

We better not move up for Lee.  ASJ and even him only for a our 4th (not Tampa's) or 5th and 6th to move up to make sure we get him.  Anything more is almost criminal in this draft.

WW85
WW85

@Bytor Yeah.  I actually agree with you more than me. I think ASJ/AMARO @ 49. And CB/LB in rd 3 really makes sense as well from the Seattle mold. At this point, we won't be getting a game breaking WR anyway so we can deal with it in rd 4.

@Disgruntled Jets Fan

I hope Eli gets buried this preseason because the Giants didn't draft an O'lineman early.......see how good Beckham and Cruz are with Ryan Nassib throwing to them.

WW85
WW85

@Monty @ukjetsfan I'd be very pleased with ASJ/Amaro & looking at the mocks, I think there is a very good chance one will be there. There are some great players on the board.

WW85
WW85

@Bytor Decker, Kerley Nelson are the 3 locks at WR. I think Hill, Ford are both expendable but look much more secure than 24 hours ago. We will carry 6 WRs so figure we add 2 in rds 4-5 guys like John Brown, Paul Richardson. Hill needs to show up to make the team. I'd love Landry but I dont think Idzik will go there with Amaro/ASJ on the board.

Bytor
Bytor

@WW85 @Bytor  That was my train of thought on the wide receivers. A lot of peeps are down on Hill, but I just don't see a draft pick coming in an taking his spot unless your name is Watkins or Evans.

There are only so many snaps in a game. Decker, Kerley, Hill, Ivory, CJ and even Geno are all going to get theirs. A tight end makes all of the above better. I'm all in on ASJ/Niklas/Amaro.

*note: I'm prepared to be surprised again.
