Quote: More negotiations ahead

“I reached out to Jeff and asked him how dedicated he was to the number. We’re going to negotiate what we’re going to do with the number … obviously, he’s been there for his four year-tenure. That’s something that is up in the air. Maybe we can negotiate, otherwise I’ll have to find a new home and a new number.”

– Eric Decker on acquiring his #87 from Jeff Cumberland

Trade Cumby, problem solved

Think Cumby would give it up for a night out with Mrs. Decker?

I see Edelman is back with the Pats. I was hoping he would sign elsewhere. Pats are gonna be tough.

Does anyone else think we should go after DeSean Jackson and/or Chris Johnson?  Both are explosive hoe run threats that bring a new dimension to our offense.  Sure they have their off the field issues but one thing I know about Rex is he is great with getting the best out of his players on the field with the exception of Holmes I suppose.. but to be honest his personality was in check over his tenure as a Jet.  THe combination of those two with possibly signing Vick would instantly solve our offensive woes at least in the short term and give us a dynamic offense to match our strong D.  Jackson obviously has ties to Morningwig and Vick and would make NYJ a preferrable destination to Vick.  Also freeing up the jets to draft BPA in the draft as Idzik's philosophy is anyway.  I know asking for these characters is hard to imagine but from a football perspective I couldnt imagine a better blueprint.  Couple this with drafting a TE like Ebron or Amaro.. boy oh boy would we be one exciting and competitive team.  I also cannot talk enough about Vicks effect on the locker room .. bringing a winning and mature face to the team.  Him and rex surely could keep a few knuckleheads in check.. with big chips on their shoulder and a lot to prove..

Also Im sure im in the minority here but I would really like to have Vick start for a year or 2 and allow Geno be mentored with a clipboard in hand.  He could learn a lot from Vick including how to effectively use his speed and athleticism to his advantage while allowing the Jets to go on a run with a veteran guy that most players respect and really could unite and get behind.  This in my opinion would put us in a great position to make a real push for the post season and KEEP REX.  Who I think is such a large asset that people seem to greatly underestimate.

Cumberland is just messing with the new guy's head now RT @Cumberland87: Happy Birthday to my new teammate @EricDecker87! #87? #nyj

Not sure if he gave it to him for his Birthday or just messing with him.

Sell him the jersey number with performance bonuses, if decker makes probowl you owe me 200k instead of 100k!

Channeling my inner idzik!

He should take a # in the teens, like 15, to honor his old QB, The Tebow!!!  Maybe not.

I wonder if Decker realizes that Cumby has only had 87 for one season.  He was 86 for the first three.

Who really cares?

OK, I guess Cumby fans would care because they might have to get a new jersey!

A new home?? Does that mean "F the Jets if I can't get Cumby to give up the number" ?

@levi  wow the salary cap increase this year really helped new england

Age had a funny way of sneaking up on people, and Brady looked old last year.

@rstysanchz  Not necessarily, he might retain his #..... or you can always give them away to poverty stricken  Jets fans...the colors rock true!!

@newyorkj  I would like Chris Johnson if he doesnt want to break the bank. Ivory/Johnson would be the new thunder n lightning in NY.

While I agree with most, I would not want Vick to be te starter, or to even compete with Geno. Geno needs every first team rep this year.

I do agree with the Rex thing too.

When the jerks come and rip apart your comment don't take them to serious and stick around. We enjoy new posters here.

@Bent  I didn't know that... thanks Bent, that's relevant.

@a57se Think of all the money Woody's gonna make selling all those new Cumberland jerseys for the 2nd year in a row.

@kniff I think it was tongue in cheek. I like this guy. I may just get a Jersey if he doesn't have to quit because of Cumberland.

@DrJonathanReefer  So did Manning in the Super Bowl. I know he had an amazing year, but its hard to forget how old he looked. He looked like Chris Dudley playing QB.

@DrJonathanReefer  I agree but bolstering the D will go a long ways to help him. He wont need to put up 30 points a game anymore.

@namvetjet I was feeling pretty good about our chances this year though. But they took a different approach to free agency than I ever thought they would.

@kniff i was only joking but honestly i dont buy jet jerseys anymore because every jersey ive bought in the past that player either gets traded injured or leaves due to free agency...out of the 6 jet jerseys i purchased not one of them was wearable the next season

@DrJonathanReefer

I appreciate the support.  I've got thick skin don't worry.  Ive been reading TJB and its comments for years just never get around to posting.  I am going to make an effort to be more active because just like many of you out there I bleed Green and White.. Seems like sometimes the commenters out there forget who the enemy is.  Go Jets!

@Monty Granito  Oh ok... let Decker start fresh as a Jet with a new #. Cumby has put in his blood, sweat, and tears as Jet at #87, and deserves to continue with that number.

Of coarse some athletes sell their # to a player that really wants it sometimes...lets see what happens.

@levi @DrJonathanReefer

And they bolstered their #30 run defense by losing Spikes and likely losing Wilfork, how?  Now, if anything, their defense is even less complimentary to their offense.  Dump offs and run it down their throat and keep their offense off the field.  it won't be like last year when their leaky secondary would give up the big play,  be scored on quickly and then New England O could answer quickly and stay in a rhythm.

@levi @namvetjet  Our chances are always dim every yr until we shut them up during the season. We got this, Cumby should give up his # or get benched we have a Top WR and he should bow down to him lol jk.

Go Jets

@rstysanchz @kniff  If you did buy a Cumby jersey, you'd already have changed it once because he changed from 86 to 87 last year.

Well welcome to commenting and I'm always happy to support anyone who backs Rex.

Best coach we've ever had.
