Great competitor. Really fierce. A really smart player. Tough. Great finisher. Physical. He’s legit. We hated losing Breno. We would’ve liked to (have kept him), but we couldn’t do it. We had no intention of wanting to lose him, but he’s one of the guys we had to transition out of the organization. He’s worth it (for the Jets). He got paid well and he deserves it.”

- Seattle Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll, talking to ESPN’s Rich Cimini about new Jets right tackle Breno Giacomini at last week’s owners’ meetings in Orlando (Source: ESPN)

@Brian_Bassett Brian Bassett can we the fans do a vote on Vicks Jersey Number can I start off by recommending #1#8 or #17

The Eagles released DJax in March taking a 6 mil cap hit. If released the first of June then only a 2 mil cap hit. Something really smells with his release. Buyer beware!

Glad we signed Bellore. Now we can go in a different direction at the draft. (Chuckle)

I guess Leberfeld is taking a shot at Cimini. The press wars are getting fun.

And when they didn't go after MJD a guy who would run through a wall to beat the pats and have been great out of the backfield on 3rd down they told me they're looking to draft a kid

For anyone who doesn't want djax cuz of his attitude and work ethic and does want cj - you're nuts. He's a dog. Plays hard once on awhile when he feels like it and has nowhere near the talent or value djax does

Only Jets fans can argue In favor of Powell over Chris Johnson..

Seriously..

And we all know Idzik won't overpay so if we land him it wont be for big bucks.

 it is what it is I guess.

Marvel
Marvel

I know Chris Johnson had a down year (still a 1000 yard RB ) but he's an upgrade over Powell.

an Ivory /Chris Johnson combo is something that needs to be explored if possible.

There are other ways to go, but let's not pretend that our run game is perfect.

@maxjet  They could still have designated him a post-June release if they had chosen to do so. I don't think that's an issue.

williamg1

@MPTG_Frank  I'm pretty glad we signed him. He is a special teams stud. He's not going to be a superstar, but he's a solid backup.

@williamg1  He takes shots at the beat writers pretty regularly.  Part of that is to differentiate his own product though.

Still, can't disagree with him here.

@jimjets He was really running through walls last season with his breathtaking 3.4 yards per carry.

williamg1

@jimjets  I think Ivory will run through a wall. I think he'd run through steel. Its only a matter of time before he kills someone (or himself).

McGeorge

@jimjets  It all depends on price.

Maybe Idzik doesn't want to pay up for MeSean.

Maybe the Jets can get Chris Johnson for a very low price.

These are older players and would only be around for a couple of years and maybe Idzik isn't willing to pay for that.

@Hanknaples

JaWuan James. eh? Why should we draft him before someone in our division does? Is he the next Walter Jones?

@Zartan

Decent back, don't love his vision, very stiff.  But as a 5th - 7th round pick couldn't complain.

Johnson would be replacing Goodson or Ivory and not Powell.

Nobody has a problem with Johnson provided the price is right

If the roster is Goodson, Ivory, and Johnson it would be pretty sweet. However, Powell plays an important role as a 3rd down pass protector for the QB in the backfield and as a receiver. Powell also is tough and can play injured

C Johnson, Goodson, Ivory - none of them are particularly good blockers on 3rd down and Goodson is the only one of them who can play the LT role as a receiver well....Powell is a good receiver out of the backfield

williamg1
williamg1

@Marvel  Johnson was unhappy about the Titans bringing in Shonn Greene last year, because he didn't want to lose snaps.

I can't see CJ chosing a team, where he will have to share snaps with TWO other backs. And I can't see Idzik bringing in CJ after just bringing in Ivory and Goodson last year.

@Marvel  Powell is a good change of pace back, and he had a few good games this past season.

bradysucks

@Marvel

Powell is our only RB who can pass protect.....and you need to be able to pass protect in the NFL.....

Ivory and Johnson could make sense in a platoon as the #1 RB only because Ivory has a history of injuries........so between the 2 of them maybe we get 16 games......I'd hope

Zartan

@Marvel  Can we give him a little bit more than Powell makes ? Pay him around Ivory $$$ ?

@jake100 @maxjet  Rumors are that it will eventually be a legal matter. In any case DJax has become a hot potato.

hazard2012

@McGeorge @jimjets

One can make a case for taking a flier on DJax...but why waste time/money on Chris Johnson when you can draft the likes of Sankey, Freeman and Seastrunk, to name just a few, top quality RB's for a 4th round pick?

Zartan
Zartan

@harold @Zartan  , He reminds me of Ward. He does look a little stiff but i think he will be successful in the NFL.

Sanky, Seastrunk, Mason are other options, although i would not mind a C2k that much. Johnson would allow us to go in a different direction.

@bradysucks

 ??

Chris Johnson always plays and Ivory gets dinged up not injured to the point where he's gone for weeks.

@Zartan @Marvel  No idea.  But what the hell, might as well spend out cap space somewhere.

@a57se

 I've seen a few guys turn their nose up at the idea of adding Chris Johnson as if to say Powell is good enough.

 Powell isn't awful but there are a number of players (draft ) that would be better options..

Zartan
Zartan

@a57se @Zartan @harold  , I would be more comfortable getting a CB and trading a couple picks to go back up and get Cooks/ODB(etc) or something.

@Zartan @harold

We have 12 draft picks....how many different directions do we need to go in??

boomer

@Brendan @boomer  On that I agree. And as I said before I don't see CJ all that excited about being in that role. He sure wasn't last year, he still wants to be the man.

Brendan
Brendan

@boomer I just meant that I don't see Idzik paying big bucks for a guy who would be splitting touches.

boomer
boomer

@Brendan @bradysucks  I'm not sure I agree that Idzik won't pay market rate for a particular need.  Overpay just to land someone, yea I agree.  But I haven't seen anything yet that says Idzik won't pay what is needed for an identified need and the right guy.

bradysucks
bradysucks

I don't think Chris Johnson is a good receiver out of the backfield which Geno needs or a particularly good blocker on 3rd down.

Goodson was very productive in Oakland and can catch passes for Geno. I think Goodson averaged close to 5 yards per carry his final year with the Raiders. I think Goodson can be productive for the Jets.

I like Ivory and Goodson. I like Powell as a back up. Powell has excellent durability which is important. You can rely on him to play even when injured.

I got no problem adding another RB for depth.....If Chris Johnson comes cheap then fine

Brendan
Brendan

@bradysucks  Are you serious? How many posts do you and I go back and forth earlier about the offense? Haha, and you're okay with Powell if you could get CJ for a reasonable price?

We all know Idzik won't pay him a high salary, so if he's on the team it'd be cheap. I give it a 5% chance at best, fwiw.

bradysucks
bradysucks

Chris Johnson....meh

Don't want to invest money in him....I'd rather draft a RB who is an upgrade over Powell.....

Goodson & Ivory are solid

Brendan
Brendan

@jake100 Great, thanks for clarifying this is nothing more than a guess.

Brendan
Brendan

@jake100 How much is "too much longer", so we can mark it on our calendars?

Brendan
Brendan

@jma020 I don't think Powell is a lock to make the team at all. There are quite a few talented RB's in this draft, plus Goodson. He's okay, but nothing special.

jma020
jma020

@Brendan @jma020  Depends on what they're going to have to pay.  I definitely don't look at Powell and think we NEED to upgrade.  RB is actually (sadly) our strongest position on offense.  (If you lump all of O-Line in as one category, obviously Mangold and Brick are our best players)

Marvel
Marvel

@bradysucks

 cut it out, one has nothing to do with the other, not adding player x shouldn't stop you from adding player y.

Chris Johnson helps us and makes us a more dynamic offense.

Brendan
Brendan

@jma020 Goodson wasn't cut, he's still on the team. He even restructured his deal this offseason.

I don't think Powell is bad, he's just meh. CJ is a significant upgrade from him, imo.

bradysucks
bradysucks

@Brendan @Marvel

Powell at least blocks for the QB well on passing downs......

Spending money on Chris Johnson after not getting James Jones, Jared Allen etc would be a kick in the nuts.....especially if they pay him a contract bigger than what James Jones got or some of the other receivers who could have truly helped the Jets

jma020
jma020

@jake100 @jma020 @brendan @marvel  well then looks like we have another hole to fill.  I guess if you can't draft BPA by filling holes in free agency, draft BPA by creating holes in free agency.

boomer
boomer

@jma020 @Brendan @Marvel  I agree.  4.0 YPC last year wasn't too shabby.  And I love his attitude, plays hard every down.

jma020
jma020

@Marvel @jma020  In what area of his game is he a liability for the offense?

He can pass protect, he can catch and he's a decent runner.  That's solid #2 in my book.

Marvel
Marvel

@jma020

 He is not a solid #2...He's a solid emergency plan if you've ran out of options.

jma020
jma020

@Brendan @Marvel  Doesn't do any of them poorly either.  People tend to focus on the fact that Powell doesn't do any one thing especially well.  I think Jets fans under rate him.  He's a solid all around #2 RB.  Which fits in perfectly with Ivory and Goodson.

Brendan
Brendan

@Marvel Powell does a lot of different things, he just doesn't do any of them well.
