Ray Lucas: ‘There are needs everywhere’

We asked Jets Nation’s Ray Lucas what he thought the Jets still need to address. Here’s his response…

They have a running back that only started three times, they have a linebacker that started five times — these guys aren’t established. But on the flip side, they’re money-strapped. They don’t have any money to spend. And it’s hard to judge John Idzik on what he’s done so far.

At first look, you’re like ‘What in God’s name is going on?’ There are needs everywhere. There are no safeties on the roster, except for Josh Bush. You don’t know what’s going to happen to Darrelle Revis. Dustin Keller is gone. Shonn Greene is gone. Brandon Moore is probably not going to be there next year.

Jets Nation on SNY

At every position they need something. Even at the quarterback position, they need something. They’ve got Mark Sanchez and David Garrard, who hasn’t played in two years.
You can close your eyes and do pin the tail on the donkey, at any depth chart position, and they’ll be short there.

But, there is no possible way you can look at Idzik and say he’s not doing a good job, because the situation that [Mike] Tannenbaum left him in, is just… bad. He’s strapped for cash. He doesn’t have the money to make an impact. They just couldn’t compete in free agency.

I think Rex Ryan is the only guy who doesn’t know they’re rebuilding. And it’s sad. If this guy is fighting for his job, and he’s taking the field with the team he has now, he doesn’t have a shot in the dark.

Jets Nation returns to SNY tonight at 7 p.m.
