Revis Watch: Revis Headed to Tampa for Exam

It is currently being widely reported that Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis is heading to Tampa Bay this morning to meet with and be examined by the Buccaneers about his progress and rehabilitation from his 2012 knee injury.

The wheels are now in motion, but it would seem to us that the physical exam will be the potential point of failure now in a trade between the New York Jets and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  That said, with all the news last week about how great Revis was doing and how good his MRI looked, that the Bucs will sign off seems a foregone conclusion.  Also, we can assume that the compensation for the trade is set, as is the contract re-work.

So what will the Jets get?  The expectation from the Jets is that they will be getting at the very least the Tampa Bay Buccaneers first-round draft pick (the 13th pick) and up to two more draft picks somehow falling in the 2013 and 2014 draft.  That was up in the air as late as last week, so whether it’s one or two picks and in what drafts they come … we’ll have to wait and see.

Meanwhile, some pundits are wagging their finger at the Jets for this move, here’s one example.

We’ll have a lot more to say about this later, but for now let’s just say that situations like this are never as black and white as what is reflected above in this example by Gary Myers.  However they got here, the Jets are here and all they can do is make the best out of the situation.  That seems to be something that Idzik understands and is acting upon.

So how do the Jets make the best of it?  There’s speculation that the Jets might try and move back, but that is 100% up in the air.  The first matter of business then becomes what the team would do with two picks in the top 15.

More today as we hear it.
