Bent, TheJetsBlog.comThis sets up an interesting battle between Cundiff and the incumbent placekicker Nick Folk, who was expected to beat out the rookie Maher.
Cundiff was a journeyman kicker after having gone undrafted in 2002 and was with his 9th team (Baltimore) when, almost out of nowhere, he had a monster year in 2010 and was named as an all-pro. Cundiff increased his touchbacks from three to 40 and had easily his best season as a field goal kicker (26 for 29) that year.
Since then, he played one more year with the Ravens, failing to repeat his 2010 success and last year he was with the Redskins but was released in October after a poor start. The 49ers signed him late last year to compete with David Akers, but Akers held onto his job.
